If we don't reach the quarters after that draw we may as well all give up... with us playing someone from Poland's group in the last 16, its not like they can say they will have gone out to one of the big guns

Won't get out of the group.

Belgium-lose

Tunisia-draw

Panama-a fear filled draw

Go in with the pessimistic predictions. It'll be a nice surprise when it's better than you predict.

Given recent political developments, I reckon betting a fiver on a 27-0 victory to the hosts in the opening game could be a reasonable punt.

This is a great chance to push on in the competition. Should clear the group.

Next round is one out of Poland, senegal, Colombia, Japan. Do-able.

Then Germany or Brazil....

True, plus Iceland topped their group whereas Portugal finished a poor third behind them, - who'd have picked that?

I hope as always any British side does well and gutted not to be part of it but we proudly over achieved last year to be honest.

I know! Don't you just hate it when those little countries are carried by their greasy haired, arrogant, superstar Galactico player?!

As for England's draw, we shouldn't have a problem with getting out of the group. Whilst the Belgians have some very good (and a couple of world class) players I don't think they're half as good as some people make out and there could have been far worse draws. Quarter final should be the aim but I'm going to make a bold prediction and say we'll reach the semis....

Well we have to finish top 2 to get through the group and then we're likely to face someone of the calibre of Poland who are bang average. It then means we just need one big performance to cause a bit of a shock in the quarters and I think we have it in us. 3 bug performances to win the thing is asking a bit much tho!

I'm not sure what your trying to say and for the first 99% of the post I thought you were being serious.

Well we have to finish top 2 to get through the group and then we're likely to face someone of the calibre of Poland who are bang average. It then means we just need one big performance to cause a bit of a shock in the quarters and I think we have it in us. 3 bug performances to win the thing is asking a bit much tho! "

I think your best bet is to go with no pressure.

Get out the group - that's all, them have a party and enjoy the ride.

Hope you have such a good time that you have a bus parade when you get home.

More than anything for the proper England fans, the real ones - they have a safe tournament. If people (they aint fans) want to throw chairs or bottles accept the reprocussions

"England if you don't end up in 2nd place in that group you should hang on heads in shame.

Belgium will win the group.

I agree with that, - in fact the draw looks possibly easier if they come second in the group if the rest of the groups are true to format ....... but it rarely works that way

Don't matter how you do it, just get out and re evaluate.

After we beat them in the qtrs of the Euros I imagine it would of stung so I imagine a better stronger Belgium this time but like their neighbours France your not sure what's going to turn up.

True, plus Iceland topped their group whereas Portugal finished a poor third behind them, - who'd have picked that?

But that was such a poor Euros, the WC will be far, far stronger.

Portugal 3rd? Wow I wasn't aware of that.

So gutted we didn't turn up in that semi vs them but happy they won it overall.

Oh god I wasn't, - they played such negative football & France were easily the best team in the tournament.

But c'est la vie

I'm Welsh mate and felt we didn't turn up vs Portugal, we didn't vs England either.

We were missing Rambo vs Portugal.

I hope as always any British side does well and gutted not to be part of it but we proudly over achieved last year to be honest.

I'm pleased Portugal won it as that prick (at times) Ronaldo carries his country from time to time and it's nice for a new name to be on the trophy

I agree that Poland are bang average, but so are England - & there's no guarantee that Poland will even qualify from that group ...... Colombia can be brilliant , Japan again have performed far better this century than England at World Cups & although I haven't seen them, Senegal are supposed to be the best African team at the tournament.

European countries have the seeding advantage at World Cups, - who'd have thought that FIFA were based in Europe?
