What's in a name??

When I was younger I hated my Christian name I so wanted to be called Julie,or Sarah as none of my friends or teachers had heard of my name

As I'm older I love that it's not very common

So do you like your Christian name,is it well known or not so popular/well known?

I love my name and then at times I really don't! It can sound really wanky especially with my surname so I often use a shortened version.

I don't think it's that common but I might be wrong.

I don’t mind mine, it’s a bit old fashioned and not very common. I’m known by the shortened version, however there are a couple of people that use the full name.

I always wanted to be called Amy when I was younger, no idea why

Hate my full name always have. Only my Nan calls me it nowadays and as shes in her mid 80's ill let her off..lol

My name is fairly common. I used to hate it but I'm cool with it now.

There are a couple of ways of spelling it and I get cross when it's mis spelt.

The shortened version of my name is also often mis spelt!!

I only allow people I like to shorten my name. If I don't like you then it the full name because it's one of those names that can sound quite ostear.

I quite like mine; Biblical but I prefer the shortened version. Hardly anyone calls me by it though as I usually go by a nickname everywhere

I like mine, but there's more than one way of spelling it and wish it was spelt the other way to what it is.

It's one of those names that's neither common nor uncommon, but was more popular amongst my generation than it is now - just ran a check and since 2005 there have only been between 10 and 20 recorded instances each year in the UK of babies being named it

Mine is a very common name and I always hated how boring it is so I named my child a very unusual name, most don’t believe I actually gave that name to her but once you’re used to it it’s actually easy to forget how unusual it is, I know there will be phases of it being enjoyed and disliked and then liked by her but I hope when she’s an adult she’ll enjoy it

I neither love nor hate my first name.

It is quite uncommon amongst people of my age and younger but not particularly old fashioned. My middle name is very old fashioned and I've always disliked it.

My parents did struggle a bit to choose a name. They didn't know they were having twins and had chosen names for one baby. My twin sister got the chosen names as she was born first, very common names for people of our generation. They had to think of something for me. I was named after an old friend of my mum's and one of my grandmothers.

Hiding in the shadows

My name drove me mad as a child.

In the 70s there were 2 songs with it, and I got 1 sang to me everywhere I went (I actually rather like the song now I'm a grown up)

In my 20s I got given a nickname which to this day most friends call me & my names not used that often.

At one of my jobs though, there are 3 of us with the same name, which has often led to rota confusion & all 3 of us, have turned up for the same shift!

My name is really common. When I was in school I always had to be referred to as "[first name. Last initial] because there were so many girls with the same name as me.

But very few people who I know actually use my name anyway. I go by my nickname most of the time and I'm happy with that.

Mine's reasonably uncommon - I've only known around five other people in my whole life with the same name. I used to hate being called by my full name when I was younger, now I like it but I often get called one, two or even three shortened versions of it. Though it's irritating when people can't remember my name and call me by a similar, more common name.

Mines ok... but most people mispronounce it so I tend to use an abbreviation instead I wouldn't have thought its terribly unusual... but now I think about it I've only met maybe 6-7 other people throughout my entire lifetime with the same name... so maybe it is!
