Another of life’s unanswerable questions

Good evening to you all again.

Now yesterday we tried, and failed, to answer the question “what noise does a giraffe make”.

Now today we face a new question, a new challenge..... will there be an answer? Will it come from one of you?

Let’s find out ...!

So, if Pinocchio said “my nose will now grow”

What would happen?

Good luck

"Nothing "

But if nothing happened, wouldn’t that be a lie?

under my rock cleethorpes

If kept as an open answer to the question ‘my nose will grow......if I tell a lie’ then nothing will happen, otherwise it’s a paradox and impossible to answer without adding variables

It will grow, because he told a lie saying his nose would now grow, even though he hadn't said a lie, but it was a lie . maybe

He can't talk....

So his nose won't grow

Nothing reason being he has not told a lie, his nose only grew when he lied.

Re reading my nose will now grow is a paradox, if he lies it grows tell the truth nothing but nothing is told in the story about what happens if he makes a statement.

A statement can be a lie. Sooooooo I guess we are no further still.

Tricky one this

Pinocchio's nose grew when he lied. These lies were not reversed by him telling a truth. If he lied his nose would grow.

We need to consider what he said BEFORE the claim about his nose.

If he had told a lie BEFORE he said my nose will now grow then his nose will indeed grow. Not because he said it would but because he told a lie prior to stating that his nose will grow.

If he did not tell a lie BEFORE saying my nose will now grow then he is lying about the impending growth of his snout ........ so he lied. So it will grow.

Pinnochio's nose will grow.

Nothing will happen because he's a real person now and not a puppet made of wood whose noes grew when he told a lie.

In fact, he is at least in his early 80s and, probably makes his own puppets, if he hasn't retired or died by now

They can be truthful lies. You can make a statement that contains truth and lies.

There tends to be elements of truths in all lies.

Correct and truths so exaggerated that no one could believe you weren't lying BUT

the truthful elements are truths and they false elements are lies......

There are NO truthful lies

A solid effort there but sadly no, you are wrong on all counts.

I'd answer this with the Welsh concepts of "Now" and "Now-in-a-minute".... You have to decide when "Now" is...

So, if he says "My nose will grow now" - then it won't grow "Now" because he hasn't told a lie yet.

But - after "Now" has passed, and his nose hasn't yet grown, then his statement will have turned into a lie - and then his nose will grow ...

But - ! - it will only grow After "Now" has happened..!!!
