So as thier is a wealth of knowledge on here I thought I might ask

My credit scores crap 148 on last check. I’ve full time job. Bank account here in uk last 9 years. No loans 2 credit cards all up to date. Two phone contracts no outstanding bills or depts with anyone and I can’t understand for the love of me why my score won’t change. So my fellow fabbers if anyone has any words of wisdom I would gladly love to hear. Thanks in advance

Have a look on clearscore, it tells you all the positives and negatives on your credit score.

Defaults and repossessions last for up to 6 years on your score if you have any of them and they will keep your score nice and low.

Keeping on top of direct debits helps boost it as well. If you pay most things cash then your score wont be affected

As Slice of Pie says, you need to check the details. On the face of it your credit score should be higher than that. Have you your current address on your phone accounts etc? Are you on the electoral roll?

Otherwise you’ll need to check the details on your credit score to see if you have any defaults or if someone else has been using your identity to obtain and default on loans etc.

Thanks for that. I pay most of my bills by DD I’ve no defaults or any bad payment history and the only thing I can think of is as I’m not a uk citizen and only lived here 9 years that that may be having an impact on my score. The negatives I’ve checked in ClearScore are electoral register and also not enough borrowing which I’m not prepared to undertake. Thanks for your advice

If you're not bothered about borrowing then I wouldn't worry about credit score unless you're going for a mortgage

I’ve checked and my details all appear ok. I’m not on electoral register and all my current bills etc are in my name and address with none in default and all payed by DD. Just got so pisseed off other day when I tried to buy a fridge freezer in hp and it was refused due to my score so ending up paying by card full amount. Thanks for the advice

I already have a mortgage in ireland so I won’t be taking out one here but sometimes it would be nice to know your credit score is ok rather than so low I couldn’t but a cup of tea on hp lol thanks anyway

Possibly worth increasing your use of credit cards to pay for some normal day to day spending that you would normally pay for with cash/debit card then paying all off each month so as not to incur any interest charges. Only do this if you’re sure that you have the discipline to pay each month though!

I would check . My score was low and I could not understand why .

I had no defaults or unpaid credit cards

When I checked . My ex had been ordering from Next on my account and defaulting . it's always worth checking

I will do but I can’t see any payments made by another party. I’ll give someone a call thanks

I tend to keep credit cards for emergency so pretty much against using them even though I’m good at repaying. Thanks

Using them and repaying will quite quickly build up a credit score

Sorry if repeating anyone (not read all the responses)

Are you registered to vote (if not will score against you). If you are does the council have the correct address.

Only paying minimum payment.

Having a large balance for a long time on CC. By large I mean 5K limit 4K balance. So relevant to your limit. Some companies are different but consistently having balances over 30% of the limit will start to score negatively.

Thanks for that. Only one I don’t have is register to vote so I’ll send that off and see if it changes anything. Seems if your accounts are in check and you don’t owe anyone any money you get penalised with a low score. Am I right

In a way you are. Credit scores are based on both negative and positive indicators. Negative indicators such as defaults, CCJs etc will drastically lower a credit score. However, even without negative indicators, the credit score won’t be high without positive indicators such as paying mobile phone bills, credit card payments on time every time. These positive indicators show that an individual is able to handle credit appropriately and are therefore important for obtaining a high credit score.

Yes having no credit is bad for your rating. You become an unknown entity to a potential creditor. Where as someone who has credit and pays in back regularly doesn't missed payments etc by default has proved they are a good bet to any potential creditor. The electoral role can a big factor. And make sure the address is correct if its wrong its hard to change (I speak from experience of that).

I am a mortgage consultant so look at these all the time.

You need to look at the full report not just the score. Are you registered to Vote? are your addresses correct on them report? Is there an account that you thought was closed but still open with even a small debt?

If you are not sure then PM me and I can help you out. x

Jobs don't show on credit reports so that needs to be taken out of the equation. The only thing that shows on credit reports financially is your commitmentments.

I would say it's the fact you don't have enough history with finances.. don't he balances on your credit card for long enough. Try putting £30 petrol on the CC leave it for a month then pay it off. Give the credit agency a time to see you are using it.

Like I said on me and inam give you me email address (work) and i can look at the report for you. Xx
