We've used makaton with my sons. I think that's what they use, it's very simple and Is picked up very easy I believe x

I used it with my sons, my eldest actually taught my youngest, it was brilliant to watch, and saved a lot of tantrums through frustration (them not me, lol). If reccomend it.

My brother has used it with both my niece and nephew.

Helps prevent frustration due to lack of verbal communication.

Yes extremely, my eldest still uses some of it now to help him with his speech difficulties, it takes away a lot of the frustration of not being able to communicate. X

Popat is a teaching programme that they use in Schools down here and in Hospital for children with Speech and

language issues, it incorpates signing as well as working on sounds etc.

There are other teaching programmes, just depends on the child and what works best. I only heard about it last year myself.

My daughter used Makaton when she was small, we only got as far as the basic of please, thank you, more, all gone and a couple more but it was helping in trying to understand what all the random noises meant!

And as annoying as Mr Tumble is (incredulously!), she learned a few more signs from that programme too which was nice.

The basic signs aren't that difficult, teach them age appropriate British Sign Language and if they keep it up they have a handy communication skill for later life.

I use BSL.... Makaton and Signalong.... they are all great ways to afford children opportunities to communicate and/or express... great tools that support communication....
