We never learn

Bangladesh has today signed a deal to send the Rohingya Muslims back to Myanmar - the place they were fleeing for their lives from.

This in the same week that Ratko Mladic was sentenced to life for genocide.

We don't learn. And even worse, the silence from the west is deafening. It's no better than the Dutch standing idly by whilst Srebrenica was massacred.

Fucking shameful.

They may be suffering, but at least someone on a swingers site started a thread for them. Bet that means a lot to them

So what would you rather.? Another kiss, fuck, avoid thread? Or are we only allowed to discuss sex related topics?

Let me know the rules that you've decided and I'll see if I can lower my intelligence to your level.

'We never learn'

No we don't…because here we all are having first world problems where we have time to spend mooting what everyone else is doing wrong in the world. We do this with full bellies from our expensive laptops, drinking artisan coffee made with clean water & an interrupted electrical supply. Very soon we'll get out of our designer pyjamas & into our designer clothes & drive our modern cars to buy more food or more non-essential things made by starving children in the countries where the 'bad people' are doing bad things to them. Perhaps we'll then wonder just who these 'bad people' are….

So what is the solution to all the world's ills?

There isn't one..

What we can do is talk about it, raise the point, make others aware that what is happening is wrong..

Creative the impetus to get movement because the more people saying it is wrong, the more those that have power to do something will have to listen and maybe take action..

Post your disgust on social media, talk about it with your work colleagues, do anything to help promote the news of the impending horror that will take place..

The alternative is to bury our heads and live blissfully unaware as others suffer because it's not on our front door.

So you seriously think the west can resolve it ?

When did we ever resolve anything in the Middle East , or anywhere else come to that ?

The thinking , the history , the way they live their lives and everything to do with their culture and religion is totally alien to the way the west sees things . So what exactly should we do ?

You say it’s shameful so tell us what we ought to do .....

Doesn't mean we shouldn't mitigate it. There are several charities trying to help (e.g. unicef), they always welcome donations if people could delay their next purchase of designer PJs to help. The more determined could write to their MP are urge them to make statements etc

Words mean nothing. Actions speak louder than words but the actions necessary to cure such ills are generally unpalatable. So instead we talk about it to create the popular illusion that a) we actually give a fuck, and b) we want something done about it.

Of course, we don't want to get our own hands dirty. Don't we have people to do that sort of thing?

Should this be in the rant thread?

One interesting fact is that the rohingya were excluded from the 2014 census in myanmar because the government said they were just a bunch of illegal immigrants.

The process of de-hunanising people always starts with seemingly small jestures like this and here's where it ends up
