I've been waiting for about 2 weeks for the grass to completely dry before cutting it.. its getting way to long for my liking and im itching to do it

Its damp but can i cut the grass without risking getting an afro :D

That is why I own a strimmer, i.e. if too long but refuses to dry.

The other option is to use the lawn mower on its highest setting, and give it a neat trim.

Is it compound or utilised grass? Does the mower have a high resolution anti circulatory action?? If so get a man into do it lol sorry I'm not a gardnerer but loved the idea of asking on fab!!!!!! Thought it was a sexual metaphor at first, I'm so naive

yes you can cut it, modern lawn mowers wont shock you!

Your lawn mower should always be plugged into an RCD socket adaptor that will trip out long before you get any sort of shock. They are only £9.00 and you can get them from B&Q.

well ive now cut my grass.. the sun came out and dried up all the rain so its all done and feel much better

I know I`m talking commercial grass cutting here but I`ve cut football pitches that had a sprinkling of snow on them! If I stopped cutting because the grass was wet, I`d be in trouble with the amount I`ve got to do each week. Biggest no-no is going on any grass that has frost on it. You`ll see foot prints and all and you definately do not cut it then!

There is a nifty chemical called mefluidide that can be applied once after you have cut the grass,the grass grows a bit, cut again and no need to cut it for ages after that, "growth retarder" it is technically known as.

Might be ok for Grass but make sure you dont inhale or ingest it Dont want groth retardation

my advise is to cut it now before its gets too long

just cut it half way down

then half again in a weeks time

the longer the grass gets the more chance you have of loosing the lawn

Cut it too short and severely, heading into winter and cold leaves it weakened and open to diseases etc, a neat cut and a topping off tidy cut before growth stops for winter.

Come to that, you should use an RCD with any portable tool and regardless of the weather/ground conditions. Of course, it`s raining you shouldn`t be using any mains voltage tools outside! Use battery powered tools if they`re available.

dont worry about cutting it short, you will get away with it til december. After that you need to worry, not all grass marks in the frost from foot marks. The foot marks are only caused by the grass blade breaking. But I am only a sports turf & Soil Scientist so dont take my word for it LOL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
