I saw a Steel Panther tribute band once, I paid to see the support act and wish I hadnt stuck around. The singer was alright but I was not prepared to see an overweight 40 something in a wig and tights singing about tits and farts

Deep Purple at the NEC about 1986.

We were seated along the side and every time anyone stood up a security guard pushed them back into their seat.

The band were great, the venue and atmosphere was terrible.

Paul Weller, many years ago at Guildford.

It was like watching paint dry.

Another big disappointment was Velvet Revolver at Brixton. We'd seen them before a couple of times and they were brilliant. It was just a really flat and odd night, later found out that Scott Weiland had quit and was finishing up the dates.

Have to say that I wasn't massively impressed by Rob zombie when I saw him at bloodstock the other year. I mean, he himself was alright, but I expected so much more from his stage set, than him stepping between big riser boxes and swinging off poles. I wanted people dressed up as classic movie monsters running about on stage and such

I'm going to vote for Marilyn Manson too, at Download a couple of years back. He appeared to be on quite a lot of smack and was clearly very pissed off. His performance was beyond shoddy, and kept going off an angry, often racist, rants about nothing in particular between songs. Kind of a shame, I caught them at the NEC when they were touring with Holy Wood and it was pretty kickass show.

Having seen them 50+ times I'd be inclined to disagree but do confess there have been times in their career where it's all got a bit samey and tired - fortunately in the last 5-10 years they seem to have rediscovered how to mix up the set and drop in album tracks and rarities rather than churning out the greatest hits in the same order every night

Worst ever gig for me probably has to be The Style Council at the Royal Albert Hall back in the 80s - was one of their last ever gigs and Weller refused to play any of the hits and was experimenting with hip hop/house at the time and it was awful - one of the only gigs I've been to where the audience remained seated for the duration.

Without a doubt 10cc. The support, some Norwegian group I think they were, never heard of before or since were far better!

Followed by Madness, a group I love, but at the time they were touring because they needed the money rather than touring because they wanted to.

Madness are definitely worth seeing again now - as I said up thread they've captured the magic again by (finally) realising they have a decent back catalogue to call on and don't have to rely on the greatest hits package as much as they once did

Im sure i've seen worse but the only gig I've walked out of was the futureheads. My mate won tickets on the radio but we gave it 5 or 6 songs and left. Hate their version of 'hounds of love' too.

Actually UB40 did the first time I saw them back in the early 80s - first half they played new album stuff - second half was the more established stuff - didn't think anything of it at the time as was only my second live gig I think but it actually worked quite well

I saw her play the other day in Brighton..was really looking fwd to it then i fainted 20 mins into it and missed the rest of the gig . not her fault but it was a big disappointment

the one that was most recent was Hawkwind about 3 or 4 years ago .. i used to love going to see them and have had so many good nites at their gigs but

they were crap and should have packed it in years ago ..was sad to see a band i loved and still love to listen to become so shit and i left before the end as it was all too depressing

It was a big stadium job, we went with ex's work, big concerts I've been to there's often a break, they were supposed to be on for 2.5 hours total but barely made it through a full song in first hour.

Iron maiden in Cardiff this year. Not because of the band but because of other people at the gig.

It was a standing only gig and we found that every single time we moved so that I could actually see, some inconsiderate, arsehole moved too and stood right in front of me. We even migrated as far as the other side of the arena and this twat did too! I couldn’t even see the big screens, never mind the stage. In the end hubby moved forward and stood in front of his wife to make a point about his behaviour and they both threw their toys out the pram. They ruined the whole gig for us both.

We’ve booked to see them next year in Birmingham and have booked tiered seated tickets this time so we shouldn’t have any similar issues again.

The worst gig I've witnessed whilst working was baby shambles, shambles is very apt description, who knows what combination of drugs he'd taken but seemed to struggling to hold his guitar and couldn't perform on what he'd taken. 12 months later he'd sold out the venue, had Kate Moss waiting on the tour bus for him and paparazzi all around the place

I have seen them many many times over the years in many different line ups as far back as Calvert, I went to see them in April this year at the Birmingham institute and they were brilliant . They have changed the line up again and also bought in a new bass player who reminds me of when lemmy used to play with them . His very good . They also did an acoustic set at the beginning of the gig that was different for hawkwind but it was rather good. Great night .

We saw Sisters of Mercy this year, my ears still haven't forgiven me. We didn't stay long.

In terms of massive disconnect between expectation and reality I was unimpressed with Depeche Mode.

You're excited for it then get an email or something saying there's no gig. Sure, you get a refund but if that's the only tour stop near you or in the country then that's it!

I didn’t mind it. Not their best gig ever but not their worst either. I have a bootleg recording and it’s okay. It was their final gig by the way.
