Single at Christmas....

The Garden of Eden in Beautiful North Wales

How many people will you be single this Christmas, will you spend it here in the UK or abroad?

No ulterior motives, just looking for ideas.

Ideas and advice most welcome....

Look round any shopping centre at all those crowds of people doing their christmas shopping.Do they look particularly happy and full of christmas cheer? I always feel better off out of it.

I'm single and home, my Daughter lives with me. I do Christmas for her, I can't be arsed with it for me and way past the 'oh fuck single at Crimbo' mindset.

Fuck that I save a fortune and dont have to put up with people I don't click with.

It has its ups and down. I do miss Crimbo eve sex. Unwrapping my present the night before.

My third year in a row single, my kids are off to their Dad’s at 11am on Christmas Day and as yet I haven’t decided what to do (no other family local).

I’m thinking leftovers (we’re having our Christmas dinner on Christmas Eve), sofa, blanket, tv remote and champagne

A small part of me acknowledges that one of the reasons I hate Christmas is that it's just a reminder of how lonely my bleak, sad existence really is.

But that's just one of the reasons,,,I actually do hate that hectic scramble round the shops as well.

Hardest time of year to be single IMO! Harder then Valentine's Day imo. Plus loads of people get engaged over xmas so Ive always got mates "making announcements".

Seems a lot of lonely bitter people around. Why should other people's happiness reflect on you?

I remember going back to work after my son died. Three of us had gone on maternity leave together. I found out my boss had told them not to visit with their babies: assuming I'd be upset. I was very upset...for them!

Their babies weren't mine! The hundred of babies I'd seen since he died weren't mine. I could care less about babies that weren't mine. My partner loathes Christmas, my children have families of their own and my closest relative lives abroad.

I will spend Christmas with a man who will be glued to his computer ordering boiler parts. I will reminisce on joyous Christmas pasts without envy of others, bitterness or rancour and strive to see how I can improve my lot!

Find your own Christmas cheer you miserable buggers!

After a miserable Christmas last year that stemmed from a break up. I have given my head a wobble I have a new partner who will be going big at Christmas this year with her family down south. I am invited but have to work so I’m staying at home for Xmas day and Boxing Day it’s gonna suck but life is on the up.

I’m thankful for the way my life has changed and thankful I’m not eating turkey.

I can understand that.

I nearly died giving birth to my son. When we both survived I'd never known such happiness. Eight weeks after his birth I woke up: he didn't.

I've wasted many years bemoaning what I didn't have instead of being thankful for what I do have. It makes life so much more enjoyable.

I'm not single but other than first thing in the morning won't see my girlfriend probably until late on boxing day. I've spent a few xhristmases abroad previously and also volunteered, I've also woeked boxing day in recent years to take pressure off myself amd my colleagues when we go back in.

I'm an aethiest amd don't celebrate Christmas. I'm also estranged from my family (and general wisdom is that Christmas should really highlight that) and my views on the gross festival of greed and consumerism that are the weeks and months approaching Christmas are well documented. But I am very glad that I always enjoy Christmas day (this year, I'll run, I'll cook and ill enjoy Dr Who!) and am also glad it doesn't prompt the same feelings of loneliness and bitterness that appear in some of these comments. I enjoy nothibg more than seeing other people's happiness and for that reason alone Christmas day can be pretty ace

I'm sorry about your loss. My mum lost my brother when he was 1 year old (before I was born). She always said to me when I've been sad, just put a smile on your face and walk out the door, one day you realise you're not faking it anymore.

The world needs more happier people. If you're unhappy being single, I don't believe that's a healthy mind to be in when meeting someone. I'm not looking for another half of me, I am whole already and falling for someone will just enhance my happiness.

I enjoy nothibg more than seeing other people's happiness and for that reason alone Christmas day can be pretty ace"

My sentiments exactly!

First Christmas alone when daughter was 3 was tough. But it's got better over the years. This will be my 14th single Christmas.

Daughter is working in the evening but it doesn't bother me.

We've got into our own routine of Christmas Eve coziness, long lie Christmas morning, exchange gifts (don't go mad in an effort to compete with the ridiculous piles on fb, which usually indicate huge debt), inc a few silly gifts, eg last few years I get daughter a retro board game that we play together sometimes making own daft rules to make it more fun. We watch the tv/films we want to and eat what we want inc some treats.

We love it.

I’m thinking leftovers (we’re having our Christmas dinner on Christmas Eve), sofa, blanket, tv remote and champagne "

See now if you are closer we could have spent the day together.

I've lost my hair. It was the only part of me I felt was "perfect". I look at shampoo adverts, notice the glossy locks around me. My son-in-laws all have thick flowing locks and I do sigh and think life is unfair.

I don't however feel bitter and jealous and rejoice if I see someone with a bald patch.

My point is it's normal and understandable to sad and long for something you want without wishing ill on others.

The Garden of Eden in Beautiful North Wales

"Single here, but only because i'm a widow. For the first xmas since she died i'm not going to mum & dad's, not going to my sisters and not going to a friends.......................i'm fucking off to Morocco and fully intend to have a bloody good time

I've been thinking about Gran Canaria for xmas and new year.... if not, I think it'll be Cornwall. "

... Looks like it's Cornwall and a mini tour of England! South west, south coast, south east, north east, north west and back to normality.

Any offers of a cuppa along the way will all be gratefully received and considered, depending on the route I'm driving... which hasn't been planned!

I'll be filling up my tin tent and sodding off, most things turn to shite when you plan em anyway; So I thought, no plans, no routes, no forward thinking. Just fill it up and off to go, the only choice I have to make is xmas and New Year or from the 26th onwards to the January 1st.... next year?

My life is just so full of complications!

I'm single, spending the day the same as any other, doing what I like during the day and seeing my fwb in the evening. I am not religious so it means nothing to me and commercialism has pretty much killed any enthusiasm I may have had for it due to being a grandparent. I would hate to see what it would be like if I watched tv!

"How many people will you be single this Christmas, will you spend it here in the UK or abroad?

No ulterior motives, just looking for ideas."

I've been single for the past 30 and I either spend them working, lying about working (so I can be on my own) or with family. I adore my children and grandchildren and the time I spend with them is utterly precious but going home to my place and shutting the door behind me is heavenly.

The Garden of Eden in Beautiful North Wales

So, How did it go?

After watching the weather and trying to make my mind up (there was also quite a lot of trying to sober up going on at this point too), I headed north, Blackpool? I know, that's nowhere near Cornwall but I never said I had a definite plan either

The weather was.... a little cooler than normal and bit more breezy with the occasional rain shower and if you believe that I'm also looking for donations towards the blind mole society too! lol

Despite the weather, which let's be honest; What do you expect for the last few days of 2017 in Northwest UK, Indian summer?

All in all, I had a great time and I will be visiting again in the near future... I might even actually stay in my campervan, apparently they're great for dogging!

It's a joke btw, only 1 person will relate to it and grin, if they see it.

Yep, I'll be back... and I can't wait.
