I've been toying with the idea of getting a Tattoo, but unsure what and where to get one.

What makes a good Tattoo? And where is a good place to get one? Not a fan of sleeves. They look great now but add 30 years and it'll look like a raisin lol

What you have and where you have it is personal. The priority is quality. Get a good reccomended artist.

Personally I like sleeves though I don't sport one myself. That's down to the costs otherwise I would.

Hiding in the shadows

A good tatoo... IMO

something personal, individual, unique, a representation of the person or something meaningful to them.

A good artist can listen to your ideas, and transform them into reality, sketch out a few examples.

Where you have it will also depend on the tatoo, again a good artist will know where it will look best, and/or modify the design to fit.

Mine were done by a very good friend, he knew my story & what my idea represented, he had a pencil sketch done in minutes.

I cried when I saw it. It was exactly how I'd pictured it in my head

I blame the tv shows such as Miami ink or LA Ink for making people think the tiniest of tattoos needs a 10,000 word back story or its a pointless tattoo

Like has been said, quality is the most important part.

When I have mine done, I turn up on the day with a few ideas in my head, the guy then goes to work with a sharpie pen and does a rough freehand onto me and then tattoos over.

Sleeves these days are like the free entry into the I wanna be popular club - becoming way too common!

As others have said, both good tattooist is key, the design and placement is something only you can decide, my sleeve is completely individual as is my leg piece.

Also bear in mind your work and if they find visible tattoos acceptable.

I’m 50-50 on this comment.

I agree fully that’s theres people who get a sleeve just for the fashion aspect, usually identifiable by it consisting of 75% filler rather than actual images.

Personally I got a sleeve because I don’t like single tattoos on arms, they look unfinished to me. My opinion is sleeve it or don’t bother, either a full or half sleeve.

To be fair there's not much that will look good in 30 years. Certainly nothing worth worrying about.

Lot's of things are popular, doesn't mean you shouldn't do them.

Sleeves can look great when done well and on the right person.

Any type of tats will go out of fashion.

the anchors and compass and other old school style are back again (personally I think they're shit)

Feathers and dream catchers and all That crap you see everywhere, foot tattoos of flowers or ankle chains, Flowers, lotus, koi, Japanese style, tribal, sleeves, portraits, cartoon style, text, whatever...no tatts are original these days. Most of mine are well 'outdated' (and lots of folk will think they're shit)

The thing is to not do it because of what is and isn't popular..who gives the minutest fuck what other folk think? Get one that you like...doesn't matter of it's popular or common. If your thinking about what others might think when your choosing a tat, then don't get one

Ohh shit! I had my tats done when they weren’t so “popular” now I’m gonna have to get them lasered off

Or....I could not care less what others think and know that I have them because I like them, because they are personal to me and it’s my body to do with what I please. What ever you decided OP it’s totally your choice x

Go for what is going to make you happy. Personal and individual. Dont do what i see alot of people doing. They google a tattoo and say i want that.

Personally i like colour and thats what my sleeve is. Who cares what its going to look like in 30 years. In 30 years you may say jeez i regret not getting it done.

If your going through with it make sure and get a good artist and dont think about the cost. Remeber you pay for quality.

Personally love sleeves on men, but not on woman.

I love my tattoo it’s pretty big but it’s what it represents. I’m really wanting another. All I would say is research your artist well, look at examples of their work and chat to them for ideas

Just do some research and get something you like. Tattoos don't have to mean anything if you like the design, none of mine have any meaning and I'm covered

That’s ok you can just say what you like but no I actually don’t care what others think one way or the other it’s their opinion and opinions are not fact

A good tattoo is whatever you think is good, it's going to be on your body for the rest of your life after all, nobody else's.

Just remember that you get what you pay for; cheap tattoos aren't good and good tattoos aren't cheap

Honestly get whatever you want.

My first tattoo was a girls name. People say never get your girlfriends name, so I didn't I got a random girls name I thought sounded exotic.

Fun tattoo always looked cool if you ask me, although Ill get it covered up now cause people keep thinking I am married. When I was 16 no one thought I was married.

I also have stars on my arm and stuff, whatever you want, wherever you want.

For me (no tattoo currently) I would only get inked if there was something significant happened in my life to justify it, a sort of background story. I always and still do want to do an Ironman Triathlon one day so tempted afterwards to get the symbol and my time underneath as a reminder of the achievement. But these tattoos can be seen as a bit naff, in the Army regimental tattoos with service number not unusual but I never bothered. Find something meaningful to you and sod the rest

Think hard. It’s best to be personal and you really love it. I have a few. One I liked the look of at the time and now wish I’d put more though into it. Problem is it’s so big and on my boob it’s hard to cover with something else. So just had it sharpened up.

However I have a Chinese symbol on my back and having that reworked as something completely different. So be sure it’s right before you do it.

Go to a recommended STUDIO the will design one just for you and talk you through it all. Loom at the style as not every artist can do colour or portraits. Be happy with it and dont worry too much about it looking crap as you get old new modern inks are loads better than the stuff they used in the 50s.... black now stays black and should not go green!

Dm me any questions mate... i am a tattooist lol

A world of my own

The one on my thigh has no meaning but I love it. I broke all the common advice and got it on holiday last year. Purely based on the tattoo artist being really deep, brooding and creative. I liked his no shit attitude and his in the zone approach to his work. I watched him do others and thought he's perfect!

I had no real idea what I wanted I told him lots of things I liked and then he designed.

Is it a rose and a ribbon? In contrast to whoever it was that remarked earlier, I think classic imagery like that is pretty much timeless.

To my mind, the issue with holiday tattoos is more to do with having an impulse tattoo of something you think is hilarious when you're d*unk, and the fact you don't really know how well the shops are regulated in terms of hygiene etc. If you've watched him work and you're happy with his cleanliness and the quality of work he's turning out, I don't think it should necessarily be a hard and fast rule to always avoid tattoos on holiday.
