"My dad liked bet, he had a few big wins"

But how many loses?

Most professional gamblers are on about 23 points. I was on 12. Not bad for two years as an amateur.

A relation of mine likes a bet. Lost his family home then his family because of it and he's still betting away. Local bookies family seem content tho

Very rarely bet on horses as I know nothing about them. Occasionally gets tips from a mate who knows his stuff which I’ll go big on, yesterday was such a day with Kingswell winning at a big price

I won't be able to pick anything with any great knowledge. As I say I *used* to bet. Besides there's no way I would be held responsible for someone losing any amount of money.

I don’t think it works like that to be honest

I prefer spread betting. Smaller gains but in the long run you are the winner.

I like a bet on horse racing now and them. I went with my husband to Ascot once, to place an £8k bet on the rails for a friend. It lost.

I loved the atmosphere standing by the track though.

Well done . You seem to know what you’re talking about, sticking to a staking plan and points system is so important. Only about 3% of gamblers make a profit, that’s why we see new betting companies opening every year, they all want a piece of the action.

Sorry, I wasn’t trying to be patronising. I gamble every day and I see so many people gamble recklessly so it’s nice to come across someone who knows what they’re talking about. I apologise again for coming across as patronising, good luck with future bets

I don't see anyone being patronising. You are sensitive to peoples' comments.

Cheers, I guess we’re all different and sometimes we misinterpret each other’s comments, I just didn’t want the poster to think I was being rude.

No I don’t know, perhaps you’d like to tell me. Unfortunately I haven’t got your gift of reading people’s minds.

“Not many people have as much as me” now who’s being patronising ??
