Hiding in the shadows

Good luck OP

I moved into a rented house about 4yrs ago, didn't realise the place was infested with them.

Had to get the place treated 4times before completly gone, several thousand pounds - which landlord had to pay

But I lost almost everything in the process.

Get a wool carpet. They love wool carpets and will munch on that instead of your clothes!

I think hoovering clothes in wardrobe to get rid of larvae might help. Time consuming, and you might feel daft. Plus your clothes might dissapear up the hose....

I'm not much help..

My daughter had a hell of a time a few months back with fruit flies...I ended up getting some smoke bombs off ebay to sort it for her.

A little tip of you do that....disable the smoke alarms before you light the buggers

I think putting lavender and mint everywhere is meant to help. I do this anyway because I like the smell, but I think it works.

My mother used to swear by cedar, too. For all bugs. She loved cedar chips - we'd buy it by the bagful each year and put them everywhere.

Lavender works. I've got wool carpets, I never will again. I managed to stop them coming back with lavender. Lavender sprays, smellies, candles, even incense and this year I've had maybe 3 and no more carpet munching

Lavender and cedar does seem a popular deterrent, I've saved lots of lavender from the garden this year and seen some cedar hanging things on the net. Thanks for the suggestions.

We had a dog house at our country house. My mother made us line the entire base in cedar chips each year. No bugs (moths, ants, anything) could be found inside that doghouse. Made the dog smell nice, too

If you have spent a lot of money on clothes then spend a bit more & get some silk bags made up with drawstrings so you can pull them closed . Ermegildo Zegna used to give them away with there cashmere jumpers .

They dont like silk & wont lay eggs .

Fruitwood panelling on your wardrobe doors ( expensive & not guarenteed ) .

Cut bannanas & place them in crepe paper .

The smell will put them off as they wont go near anything that will attract predators ( bigger moths )

There has been a pheremone spray developed to eradicate them.

Rentokil should help .

If you still want to keep your stuff there is a company called the british invisible mending service in marylebone london

expensive but well worth it, 2 -3 month waiting time .

But rather than throw a £150-£999 piece away well worth a look .

Hiding in the shadows

I've got to admit, since our little episode, I have total 'moth issues'

All clothes draws have sachets in, things handing in wardrobes, and cans of spray handy in every room.

Anything that flutters by, gets a zapped.

I maybe solely responsible for killing off poor innocent garden moths, but I'm taking no chances

Ok thank you. I didn't know they didn't like silk, my silk lingerie is safe then. I have some silk fabric waiting for an idea to use it, I'll make some storage bags from it.

I live in an old, converted fabric factory and the fuckers are everywhere.

They eat things that you think they won’t and ignore the stuff they are supposed to like.

You’ll find them in carpet under something like a suitcase or a storage box, munching their way through the fibres. They like to breed in dark places and once you see the moths, you’re infested somewhere else.

They like dust too so get some moth papers and put one in your hoover. The lavender and cedar do keep them down but you need to kill them. There are also sticky pads they are drawn to.

They are tricky buggers, I wish you well.

That's useful to know. We've moved all the furniture and hoovered like maniacs but I think after what you've said we'll do that again but spray the carpet.

Thanks
