Fatal Attraction

Curled up watching Fatal Attraction and just got to the scene where Dan (Michael Douglas) goes round to Alex’s apartment (Glenn Close) to confront her and I’d never noticed before that he forces his way in from the outset and is attacking her — not arriving and confronting, but arriving in attack mode — it’s no wonder she goes for a knife.

Not saying the rabbit situation or nabbing his daughter for the afternoon to go to the fairground, nor the fact she heads round theirs at the end and corners the wife is acceptable obviously — she is clearly disturbed, but he fucks around, and gets violent on her — he’s a prick, eh?

And after all that it’s the wife that has to end it all.

Kinda wish he’d got a proper comeuppance.

Yes, it’s interesting what we are conditioned to take away from film narratives and how that can change as we enquire more!

I enjoyed watching it but was years ago .was that when she boiled the bunny and stabbed him .bit ott but a right nutter .probably a few on fab .lol

In the original ending, Alex cuts her own throat to frame Dan for murder, painting her as troubled and suicidal rather than psychotic

Didn't play well with test audiences who wanted her to get her "come-uppance"

Glenn Close feels the same way you do about it OP. She's done a fair few interviews about the character and about how the changed ending didn't do the character justice since she was troubled and abused rather than a cut and dried villain.

I get what you mean about revisiting films, loved Grease as a teenager. Watched it this week with my 12 year old neice and was horrified. The message seems to be: change everything about yourself, go from good girl to bad, wear very sexy clothing and yes that boy that was too scared what his friends would say to be seen with you, will suddenly want you.

Not a good message, kinda missed before with the 'fun' factor!

It was the him getting violent with her, that I referenced, as the thing that caught me this time on viewing.
