Stresses of buying a house

I am having one of those days! They say buying a house is one of the most stressful things you can do, at first I thought 'nonsense, it's going ok' and now over 4 1/2 months after my offer was accepted, I should have been getting the keys to my first house today.

Unfortunately it's just one of those things, there is suddenly a delay at the sellers end and completion may not be until tomorrow now! Worst thing is I've got furniture booked to arrive tomorrow afternoon (which I have already delayed 3 times).

Has anyone else had delays when buying a property?

Funny, was just talking to my daughter about this, her completion date is Thursday hopefully. She was four months pregnant when their offer was first accepted: my grandson is now five months old!

Yep over @ 6month period, bought it, chain failed, chain reinstated, undisclosed issues both above and below. Failed to complete on planned day, finally completed 4 days later. Ourscwas apparently quite straightforward. ..

Wow now that is quite a long one! It just seems so frustrating! Hope they settle in well

Sounds madness, I am a first time buyer with no chain. No one lives in the house currently (and haven't done so for a few months) as they have already moved into their new house. Utterly baffled.

Had it selling my last house, cash buyers wanted a quick sale, bent over backwards for them, rented myself a bungalow, moved into it day before completion, then they stalled for 6wks!

One of my sons & his GF, bought a house, put the offer in, in Nov & was accepted, then got told the house was actually rented out & the owner now had to give the tenant notice.

Tenant refused to move out, had to be served an eviction notice.

They were told he'd left, signed papers, turned up with keys arrived at house to find him still there & not even packed a thing!

They waited 5hrs outside with their removal van, before my son lost his patience & started carry the blokes furniture out & dumping on the street!

They couldn't move on for 3 more days, as he'd left the house in such a filthy state!

That sounds an absolute disaster. Why would they not tell someone first that it is rented! Didn't realise it could be so bad

Try building your own. We were supposed to move in Oct 28th it doesn't even have interior walls yet or ceilings or bathrooms or kitchen builders reckon march I reckon August if lucky.

They viewed the property at an 'open house' day on a Saturday put the offer in immediately.

Wasn't until Monday, told offer accepted & then about the tenant.

They did however get judt under £10k back from the seller!

They were able to claim all moving related expenses, the removal company stored their furniture & they had to stay in a hotel those first days. Plus money to cover costs of new carpets, replace 2 broken windows, and the cleaning company they hired.

As someone in the Mortgage industry... I see this a lot. but it generally sorts its self out.

Ach, I know this well! Chain free house that turned out to be in a chain three months in - took seven months to complete in the end even though I had everything ready my end. Fuckers.

The morning I was moving out the estate agent rang me to say was a problem with the buyers mortgage .they ended up having to pay me for delay by the day .took 3 days for money too exchange .It was first time buyers and parents were helping them buy .was most stressful thing that and a divorce

Yes! When we bought our house it wasn't too delayed, but that's mostly because Marc and I are pretty demanding and annoying.

But, we had a whole issue with the fixing of the front deck, which was meant to be straight forward, but turned into a mini-nightmare because of the sketchy contractor chosen by the seller. It all worked out in the end, though, and was totally worth it. Enjoy your house when you move in!

When we sold our first house I think 10 weeks in we were told that our buyers couldn't get a mortgage. That was stressful in itself but I had a very young baby and hubby was living away at the time.

I love moving though

Funnily enough I recall when we bought a house the solicitor said completion is always done on a Thursday which made me confused at the OP.

Unfortunately it's my husband that delayed the purchase of our house!

I was working long hours and asked him to print the paperwork I needed to sign about 6 weeks before I gave up and just went in to the solicitor's office on a day off!

My work have promised some customers they can move in there new build house 10th December this year. It's not even got a roof on yet

Anyone thinking of buying a new build. Don't be pressured into completing before Xmas. Your house won't be ready an the finish will be shit.

Mad rush for greedy managers and sales to get the bonus in at this time of year

I'm just about to start the process... was thinking of renting for 6 months so I can take my time with completing and moving in and if necessary decorating new place. Just the upfront costs make me boak...
