Let's all agree that the word shallow refers to being attracted to what's only on the surface? That's how I see it.

So when someone says , I choose a sexual partner in looks alone (weather that's searching for size10/size 20 women or a guy with average size/vwe) I believe that as shallow. It's not about him/her it's about what they look like, on the surface.

Is it accepted that we can be shallow when looking for someone to fuck? Or would you still be okay with someone that wants to know a little bit about you, and like your personality as well?

For me, I wouldnt meet purely based on looks. I need a conversation to make sure we are somewhat compatible beyond looks.

Likewise I don't jump at meet me now/ your so hot/ blah blah blah type messages.

I am shallow in a sense, my initial interest is sparked purely by looks. But then I do like to get to know people before meeting them.

I've been lucky and met people that I'd consider completely out of my league in the real world. On that basis being shallow is worthwhile

I tend to base who I talk to/ meet on a mixture of looks and personality. I like a connection and am looking for something pretty full on, so the person inside is pretty important.

However I very often get accused of being shallow for wanting some kind of visual before I start talking to someone (not face pics, but something other than a blank silhouette), even from people who have messaged to say how much they liked my pictures.

Yes, it's accepted. It doesn't necessarily mean I would ever fuck them or we'd be compatible but I know that some people enjoy being 'shallow'.

Either is ok. People are allowed to choose whoever they fuck. No matter if that's 1,000 people or 1 person. Any body type, height, skin colour, age, personality. They can use whatever criteria they like.

I'm ok with other people being shallow by your definition. For myself I'm pretty shallow in that I want physical attraction first and foremost or it's not going to happen. However I think that if you're attracted to someone on a physical level the chances are (in many cases) that you perceive their personality to be attractive too or you're prepared to overlook things that you wouldn't in a less attractive person. Don't expect me to want to look at your holiday snaps or care that you hate your job though

I don't think there's a perfect definition of shallow in swinging terms. It's bandied about a lot as a derogatory term but I think if you're not fairly shallow in swinging you make yourself vulnerable in bad ways. I'm with you on being more likely to contact strangers on here.

I think I am slightly shallow to begin with, in the respect that I look at the photos on the profile before anything else. It's only reading a profile that would give you more of an idea of that person/couple. Messaging and conversation more so.

May be I am a little shallow as in I'm always looking for a perfect friend, except everyone has flaws (including me) therefore I struggle to find them because of my high standards. I have had sex with people based on their looks and I have had sex with people based on their personality. I have had sex with people who possess both good looks and personality. I don't really think though that being shallow in choosing who you want to be intimate with is a bad thing?

I think many of the people who subscribe to the “I’m shallow” possibly aren’t conscious of the fact they will be making more rounded judgements as they exchange a message, glance at a bit of profile text, talk to someone, meet them etc — it’s probably not based solely on looks, I don’t think that’s really possible.

I think we are all just wired differently and that is how some are considered ‘shallow’. I know I’m very different to most ppl generally, not just on Fab. I just don’t have the visual thing, so going to a club for example would be completely pointless. I wouldn’t want any kind of sexual contact with a stranger. I don’t think ppl that enjoy that are actually shallow it’s just how their mind works. I was able to ‘meet’ without a social now I know most can’t do that and maybe I’m ‘shallow’ for being able to do that. Is that then a different kind of ‘shallow’?

I go for what I see visually first just because pictures are a big part of this site, and you need to narrow the choice down somehow.

It's then a case of finding out more about them through chatting/forums. That way I really know if we'd get on.

It can work the other way though, by liking how someone comes across on forums, then looking at pictures and their looks grow on me, as I already like who they are.

It's completely relative; so long as you're both looking for the same thing, it'll work (whether that be matching gym bods or a complete mental connection). Each to their own and all that.

Looks can be important, but there is nothing higher on the list (for me) than a spark, that 'click'.

Definitely not shallow for me, but of course by reading the profile looking at the picture 'am I attracted to the person' well no, at that point it's a profile, the profile can say one thing, the person means something completely different, the pictures would normally show only in good light. So would I need to reconsider if I am indeed shallow, I'll let you know if I start looking.

Well i probably sit on the shallow fence. I dont go to clubs and dont have a regular fb.

I merely rely on this site for the sex that i get.

So with that in mind, i only contact profiles that looks attractive to me. Thats the stage one part; if we meet and get on well then happy days.

Looks does go a long way but there needs to be some sort of connection too.
