They are apparently bigger this year after a dryer summer. Some are as big as 7 inches across this year.

Is it true if you put a conker in a room spiders don't like the smell so they don't come in.

The odd stray one you see indoors is nothing compared to the thousands that live in the cavity walls of your house. A case of out of sight out of mind is needed when thinking about natures creepies.
