I'm Only Fecking Building a St Andrew Cross on Paper Wallss

Jump to newest

By (user no longer on site) OP

So here it is I have paramount walls..Which is basically paper and chalk walls.

But I fancy a cross without the actual "cross" just all the anchor points.

Here has been the problem as I don't want the fecking wall to come down on me, and anchor points are no good with just a few plasterboard screws..so any tips will be welcome

PS all hooks have to come out quickly and go back in quickly.

Get your creative juices flowing

Ah but paramount walls don't have a frame inside them...two plasterboardscrews and like egg boxes in between.

Not a student in sight

Put the hooks into the ceiling and floor as close to the wall as possible

Might need to make it freestanding. Pain in the arse, in the wrong way, but it would save a wall being ruined

Put a large wooden panel up that’s a big enough area to be fastened to the wall securely.

Then put the anchor points into that wooden panel.

To disguise it you can paint it a feature colour, put pictures on it etc

Carisbrooke, Isle of Wight

drill a hole at the various points and inject a filler into each of the "egg box" pockets, then leave to set, you'll then have firmer anchoring points

How about 'acquiring' a free standing clothes rack from a shop? Take wheels off and they are quite sturdy tubular steel. Ok it will need some kind of raised base but when not in use it's disguised as either a room feature - cover it in fairy lights and a seat under it, or put it to use for clothes. No drilling into walls

There's a few images of ones on Google image. On a quick skim of a Google search, I can't find any that are giving a tutorial on how to make one, but looking at images, it might be easy enough to do if you have some good basic carpentry skills

Here's where I'm at.

On hook in top left hand side of doorframe another at same height through wall around 4ft away secured with a eye bolt....right through wall with a 4" square plate on other side of walk. Picture will hide it on other side.

Two eye screws on skirting boards.

A collar eye screw in the only secure part of walk which has a door frame on the other side.

And two waist high eye blots in the board with heavy duty metal plasterboard plugs in.

All improvement ideas welcome

Personally, I would either take the paper wall out and put a new study wall up or, I would build a stud wall with in your bedroom. You would only loose 5 inches of room and might save any potentially embarrassing or life altering situations. It would only take a couple of days.

Cheers mate but that seems too big of a job and the 5" is a little too much when space is at a premium

When they built they walls, they should have used strips of timber between each plasterboard sheet, to give a tongue and groove effect to lock each one to its neighbour. They aren't very thick or wide, but they should take a screw.

How are your diy skills?

I’d bond sheets of ply to the wall and then re-plasterboard over. Either dry lined or skimmed to finish.

You can then screw In some threaded anchors.

Iceland, but Aldi is closer..

Put a couple of shouldered 8mm woodscrew eyebolts into the joists of the cieling as close to the wall as possible and attach 6mm steel ropes from the cross to the eyebolts (carabiners at the end of the ropes will allow easy detachment, can get them made by a chandler)

The cross will then hang from the cieling, line the back of the cross with some rubberised foam to protect the wall and prevent the cross moving once your sub is securely in place. The

As an alternative hooks that go over and under the door between the frame? I have used three 2 meter lengths of rope single column tie on both ankles. Single or double column on hands. Large knot on the end of the ropes. Leg ones slip under door, wrist one over the door, you could add a rope coller to go over the door. It is a slight fiddle to line them up. But works!

Alternatively I have seen a kit that does the same with straps and had a waist strap.
