It's one of those underrated feel good comedy programs that always seems wasted tucked away on BBC4

Yeah I only found it by recommendation, so bought the DVDs - didn't even know they were doing another series.

Is gentle and understated comedy at it's finest

It's alot like being on here I suppose,... there's alot of swinging involved, your right arm gets a good work out and the chances are you'll never find a pot of gold!!

Love the theme tune though and I might dig out the old guitar to see if I can learn it one day!.

One of the most underrated TV comedies of recent times, so chuffed when I saw your thread as I didn't know another series was on the cards. I generally have certain programmes that I save for the Friday night, glass of wine relaxation time...Detectorists now takes that slot (previously it was 8/10 cats do countdown or The Last Leg)

Finally sat down with a nice glass of red and caught up with a few old friends.

Beautiful location, acted and written. The music is sublime and the Magpie bit, magical! Too many out there believe themselves to be ‘artists’ and if art creates an emotional response then this perfectly encapsulates art perfectly. Sad to here only another 5 episodes but I will cherish each and everyone.

It has one major problem!

It is only 30 minutes per episode

We love it. It is just class and a real surprise that is relegated to BBC4.

(Another surprise find on netflix was an old BBC3 comedy ...Bluestone42. The BBC have a habit of hiding these little beauties away)

Been watching it since it came out, been a fan Mackenzie Crook since the office days and had to watch it when I saw it advertised it's quality. Also good is obviously red dwarfs new series another series called zapped on Dave it's also in its second series now, people just do nothing, Alan partridge new stuff, the trip, there's a few good ongoing series to my knowledge but it's like gold mining in a sewer these days

Zapped has that mouthy bloke from the inbetweeners in it, talking of him he's in another old BBC series called Orrible which is also worth a watch. Off the topic of comedy, Gotham is pretty good if your into crime drama an all that superhero guff

I like to think of it as a younger persons Last Of The Summer Wine only not quite so naff!!

I actually hope they don't find the Maggie's nest as I quite like the "so near and yet so far" element that has run throughout all the series' - unless of course they are not planning on further series after this one in which case it would be a fitting end

Another good episode last night, although I missed there not being a meeting with the others attended as that usually provides some gems

I might be wrong but i seem to recall reading that there are no solid plans for a further series, explained in terms of the characters can't go on "finding nothing' or it will get staid and boring. Hope that's not the case, tho!

Me too - although if they do have them "find something" I hope they leave it at that - Fools And Horses was never the same after they bought it back once they'd finally become millionaires and I suspect the same would happen with Detectorists sad though I'd be to see it no more.

I think Mackenzie Crook said it's going to be the final series.

I guess, like others have said, you can only take the plot & characters so far.

Hope it ends on a happy high note though
