Manchester City Centre

I feel like sharing something personal, as I’ve not really communicated on the forums properly... I hope everyone is well

I’ve always been slim... but...

Over the last 5 years, or more, I’ve had a bit of a beer belly...

I’m not a big drinker... I’ve just had this big gut that seems to swell up every now and then.

Anyways... I went to Ibiza this summer... and although I thought I wasn’t into that kind of place, I actually found it to be pretty amazing...

I was there with a couple of bodybuilders who I’ve been doing some PR for... and the amount of attention they got was unreal...

I felt like I’d totally let myself down... with my skinny arms, and podgy belly... and with me being well into my 30’s... I decided to get into shape...

Since then, I have been regularly going to the gym 3/5 times per week, since June... and only had 1 week off whilst I was away in September...

My beer belly is almost completely gone, and I actually look a lot more healthy, and in the last month I’ve started to look really good in t-shirts.

I am a lot more relaxed, as I find it de-sresses me, I feel great, and I am definitely eating better

I think I will definitely look back on this as the best thing I’ve done for years...

I wanted to start training for years, and Ibiza was definitely an eye-opener... and I think the only thing stopping me was overthinking it...

As soon as I started going... and after the first week, or so, or aches... I really look forward to it...

I also didn’t think I had the time, with running my own business and DJing at the weekends... but I’ve easily fit it in, and I think I was just looking for excuses, to be honest

I’ve done lots of great things in my life, and achieved some things I’m really proud of... but looking after myself after years of not giving a shit, has really changed my life...

It’s taken nearly 5 months, but it’s definitely been worth it...

Especially after all the comments I’ve been getting over the last 2/3 weeks from friends

You can achieve anything you put your mind to... and I have realised that I need to start noticing when I am being lazy and making excuses for not doing things that I clearly want to, and can easlity achieve x

Good post OP, and congratulations. I know the feeling, since I started swimming in August and it’s had a hell of an effect on me. I swim open water and do pool sessions - about 4 to 5km per week. My upper body has already changed a lot after 38km - tighter abs and chest, and I have triceps all of a sudden. It’s brilliant for my stamina too.

It’s never too late to sort your body out - and feel great.

Being on holiday and pulling loads of Ibiza babes for a night is different to looking healthy. Women do like personality as much as they might like a guy that's in shape, so as much as it's good you're taking care of yourself, bulking up to pull women could defeat the object if you're not careful.

Yeah... I don’t think I said anything about pulling loads of Ibiza babes...

I was just with two big guys who were getting asked to have their pictures taken with every man and his dog...

I don’t usually have an issue with the girls... being a full time entertainer, It’s finding quality that is the issue...

That holiday just made me realise that although I wasn’t massively overweight... I had let myself go a bit, and needed to start taking care of number 1

All I was thinking is, in no time at all I coild be 40 and overweight, and even less motivated to do something about it...

It’s no good being 40 and not having health on your side...

Although I would definitely like it if I was getting the attention for looking good... those two guys were getting treated like celebrities everywhere we went... and all I could think of was how out of shape I was... because no one said anything about how good I looked... ever...

Now, 5 months later, no matter where I am, Ibiza or Ipswich... I don’t feel out of shape, and I feel like a new person...

So, yeah, nowt to do with pulling birds lad

Although I’m sure it wont hinder things

I eat more food... take in more supplements, but have massively reduced my sugar, and increased my fat intake (good fats), if you are interested in why I’ve done that, it’s a ketogenic diet... but I’ve not gone crazy

My body fat was 27% in July, mostly around my waist...

It was about 19% in October... will have to check again soon.

I have actually put on weight, as I’ve grown extra muscle... but lost a lot of fat from my back, hips, shoulders and waist...

I’ve always had a good diet

No fizzy drinks

Plenty of water

I just eat a lot more protein now, and more quality food... not all calories are the same, so I just make sure I’m not putting rubbish in

Most gyms will have instructors that can do it with several caliper measurements, hips, biceps, triceps, shoulder blades etc.

"Ok. Thick question. How do you measure your body fat?

Few ways to do it.

Electrical impedance (those scales that tell you) wildly inaccurate and fluctuate depending on hydration.

Calliper testing - only as good as the person taking the readings.

Under water weighing - generally pretty consistent.

"Bod pods" or similar. £100 or so so not cheap but extreamly accurate.

However, in the grand scheme of things it's not important. Go by what the mirror tells you. If you're not happy? Do more

Hey all

Thanks again for the support

FAT MEASURING

One of my clients

(I do Marketing)

Owns a health business, gym, shop etc.

I use his £8,000 InBody scanning machine

It’s about £20 a go

I don’t pay for it though...

It measures muscle, fat and bone density...

It also tells you where you are holding fat or water on your body

My weight is now the same as when I started

I look like I’ve lost weight,

But I haven’t

One of the reasons you should never go on weight alone

If I meet the one next week...

Cool

If I don’t...

Maybe I’ll still be having fun with the one, or two, I like now x

"As I begun to read, I was consciously hoping for a happy - "that's why I'm leaving Fab" - ending.

I wish you well!

Ha... possibly in the future....

I’m not here because I’m unhappy...

I’m here because I’m single,

I’ve not met the one yet

And I’m enjoying meeting cool people in the process...

If I meet the one next week...

Cool

If I don’t...

yes I know it's hard to admit, but myself & all at Fab will give the support most badly needed. .

"Good for you OP, exercise can be a wonderful drug!

The thing I've found is that since I started exercising I've more energy and have become a lot happier, not just with my own body but mentally aswell

Keep it up! "

Cheers for the positive energy!

Absolutely agree with you mate!

It’s a stress buster

Helps you sleep better

Makes you feel good in general

Physically it’s good to look good

But definitely gives you a mental edge

I’m quite a happy guy, but once I got into the swing of it, exercise had really had a positive effect on me...

I’ve had some really good ideas at work, and my business has picked up loads... all because of the extra positive energy I’ve got from training...

"I’ve lost 4 stone, 6 inches off my waist, and dropped from wearing XL to Medium tops - so I’m on my way."

That’s even better than me!

Well done mate!

You’re gonna feel amazing!

My best mate has lost 6 stone this year through slimming world and in 20 years knowing him I've never seen him do a minutes exercise! Massively proud of him and quite embarrassed (as a guy that played a decent level of football) that I've let myself go so much and gone completely the opposite way! Due to my job and the amount of commuting I do it's tough to get in the gym (not to mention numerous injuries I've had) but it's come to the point where something has to give. And if it means heading to the gym at 9pm after being out of the house for 14 hours then so be it! Can't keep making excuses anymore and it's guys like OP that are the inspiration. It's such a vicious cycle you get yourself into and never easy to get out of so I have massive respect for those who do it.

Besides, I'm looking forward to testing the theory that "it's all about your personality" on here.... as I'm pretty sure some nice biceps and a toned gut will soon blow that one out of the water!

"Being on holiday and pulling loads of Ibiza babes for a night is different to looking healthy. Women do like personality as much as they might like a guy that's in shape, so as much as it's good you're taking care of yourself, bulking up to pull women could defeat the object if you're not careful. "

He never actually said that

Lambrini seems to be the choice of most here, wanting a cheap night with no memories of what crazy shit they got up to while drinking it.

I don’t use a gym, mostly because running my own business, and having a family to run after, I struggle to make myself go to one regularly. What I do is a combination of ‘body weight’ exercises, with some dumbbell workouts, and outdoor running at weekends, to keep in shape. It is hugely satisfying when I go to a ‘swim party’ with one of my children, and catch the looks from the mums standing on the side of the pool, as I wander past in my speedos, and I look around at the other dads with their beer bellies hanging out, who just can’t wait to get in the water to cover up
