am stuck on wallpapering the wall of a room with the chimney breast dunno where to start.

the breast is about 1 cm shy of 2 widths of the wallpaper am using

You could try google, I use a site called videojug (not breasts dirty minded people), which has videos on how to do loads of different things.

im no decorator but i presumed you would start by working out the centre of the chimney breast and that is the middle of the strip of wall paper.. presuming the chimney is roughly half of the room

since this is a decorating thread..

i want 2 different coloured walls that are next to each other.. do i paint the darker wall first, or the lighter colour?

and also... cutting in first or last?

this way you dont end up with small strip that are hard to work with

And always paint light before dark Sassy as you'll need more coats of light to cover a dark at the edges than vice versa. Though I see I've been beaten to it...

im a painter an decorater u start by finding the plumb line in the centr of the chimney then go from there leave the 2 reveals till last hope thay helps

I'd like to ask a painting question. Which is the right way to paint. Wall with emulsion first then gloss the skirting or the other way round. Never seem to get a good sharp edge if I do the wall last but glossing last seems be taking ages

we have often wondered if it would be possible to build a house with contacts from here from architect to closing the door at the end.

Also would a barter type arrangement suffice?

Now a house built on that principle would be interesting to see on grand designs!!

I actually dislike this kind of post, using swinging as a means of getting jobs done, I know this thread was a bit of fun in asking a question, but I've seen other threads asking for electricians, gardeners etc.

Why would anyone ask on here if they need that kind of job done, why not the yellow pages which is where you'd usually look.

Or are you asking here cos you expect something for nothing.

Or will payment be made another way, you know like prostitution.

What makes you think that just because people are om here, that they will give up their free time to you for nothing.

Photographers seem to be the biggest commodity on here. Why ask for someone to give up their time and expense to take pics of you for free. Yet these people would be aghast if you suggested they were a prtostitute, selling their body inm exchange for a service. I've had guys ask me if I want action pics - no thanks I don't, if I ever wanted them professionally done I'd look up pornographers on the internet and see how much their hourly rate was. I expect it would be too costly but at least I haven't compromised my body.

In my opinion its better to pay for your decorator than to think, see my lounge, I paid for that by double penetration.

You won't like the look of my profile then, lol! But seriously its a fantasy that works well for me as well as others I have indulged in it with. With limited time at my disposal though I'm hardly likely to knock out a job that takes all day and leaves no time for getting ready, travelling, much less any fun, so I limit the scenarion to short jobs and then spend most of the time getting paid for my services, lol!

I hold a btec national in construction and two years of a degree in architecture as well as having plenty of experience ripping out and re-doing my gaff but being a handyman is not my job, its just something I perform at these happy occassions to indulge in the fantasy, which to be honest most women and men have had from time to time. I merely take things a step further and put that fantasy into practise....and find it nothing short of sweet and delicious!

As in Mr Lick's case, it appears his fantasy is to be working and the lady of the household take advantage of him, a Lady Chatterley's lover kind of thing. I see no problem in that.

Its when woman specifically ask for jobs to be completed when the main appeal is the job they need doing rather than the guy they are meeting. I think some women seem to think that single guys are so desperate for meets that they will throw in odd jobs and that's exploitation to me. That's why the whole asking for photographer thing annoys me. Its not right people wanting stuff for nothing and the guys going in the hope of sex after completing the job.

Its similar to the accepting presents thing and women stating 'I love corsets and if a guy wants to buy me one then ill model it for him' - no go and buy your own lingerie

it is any different from people for example asking for advice on mobile phones which we get from time to time.. or places on travel...

as long as people have some sort of expertise and are not asking for payment in kind I don't see an issue... we tell people that this is a community and if little hints or tips can help people what is the issue?

Have you never considered that some of the guys who offer their services of photography do it because they enjoy it. The guy who took my photographs for instance, he has never suggested sex or attempted. It was made clear by him from the start. I dont think there is anyone he has took photographs of that could say he has wanted sex in return. He does it purely for the fact that he enjoys his work and it is good to get new people to work with who have new ideas.

I do accept that there are genuine offers from photographers who want to practice or people who want to do tasks for someone as part of the meet scenario.

But there a lot of people who do take advantage too and I don't think men should have to offer anything other than themselves in a nsa situation.

well just think of the fun at the end of it all,,lol,,

and for painting,,just get a one coat,,cuts out the need for all that messing with 2-3 coats,,

and for a two tone wall,,cover your mistakes on centre line with a daido rail,lol,,worked for me last week and the lady of the house loved the old style look,lol

start,draw line down the middle of your chim breast edge your first drop too that line and paper outwards too either side and round onto wall

so been told to centre the chim then do the first drop centred with the centre line by 1 and to edge it by the other! which is better?

the chimney breast is only about an inch over 2 widths of the paper am using. plus the old fireplace below isnt centred in the breast. loads of room between the edge of the mantel and the chimney breast corner on the right but about 2 inches between mantel and corner on the left

its an old house but love it

Pull the masking tape while the paint is fresh! Remove it within 45 to 60 minutes after the paint is applied and set to prevent surface tear up.

From what you're describing you need three pieces on the chimney breast - 2 will leave gaps. Mark out the centre of the chmoney breast but put your first length with centre of paper on that line - not the edge. You will have one length slap bang in the middle of the chimney breast then. From the edges of the centre piece right and left hang a length around the breast and either cut the excess off at the wall where it meets or if it is plumb then continue on. Hang each length either side, alternatively to make the best of the pattern match from the roll.

You can start in two places on a breast wall..either side of the centre line, or equally over the centre line...depending on where the drops come to in relation to the corner...you dont want to leave yourself a silly piece to put in near the external corner..

Paper that isnt symmetrical WONT balance up on a wall anyway

There is a way is doing it...but a bit complicated to explain here...pm me if you want to know how..

No it aint...'DIY Men' normally claim to be specialist in everything..and they aint..I have seen some right fuck ups done by them..given that even most painters and decorators dont actually paper/paper very well your always better off getting someone in who knows what they are doing.

Ceilings

Walls

Woodwork (always do the skirtings last becuse you will pick up fluff etc and transfer it onto frames and cills otherwise)

Buy a good quality brush
