I used to drive a little metro, speedy little thing it was. My fave favourite car was a little Ford fiesta. Loads of leg room/head room and it drove me up and down the Country in my younger years, then it developed an oil leak that no garage could find, and the engine blew up on the M4.

The most reliable car i have ever had is my current car, a VW Golf 1.9TDI Match. I bought it new in 2003 and it's done 186,000 miles now. Still goes like the clappers and apart from tyres, brake pads, cam belts and oil and diesel has cost me bugger all since i bought it. Even the paintwork still looks good and not a sign of rust.

Without a shadow of doubt, the most unreliable car i've owned was a Rover 216 EFI Vanden Plas. It went through cambelts as if it needed to feed the engine, the ECU needed to be replaced 3 times in 2 years and it rusted quicker then any rusty thing i have ever known

My little Morris Minor was amazing. It had a split screen front window (so two little windows) and indicators that you flipped out the side with a switch and had a wind up crank start. Loved it. Went for miles and miles eating up barely any petrol and due to its classic car status was very economic to have on the road.

My current car is a 2012 Vauxhall insignia estate 160 engine. It has been the bane of my life. Granted I do a lot of miles in it but it goes through brake disks like crazy as the caliper pins keep jumping out and digging into the disks then the turbo valve, sheesh, don't get me started on that. Roll on 3 years until the end of the finance!

Never really had a bad car, not kept them long enough to go to shit. Driving wise I got a Rover 75 once on hire, that was fucking dull as anything

Best is my current Range Roger svr. Had Mercedes, bmw and Porsche amongst others but this is just the perfect car

i had a MM van once .

it was hand painted in green. the petrol tank dropped down one day as i was driving along , tho with hindsite its something that could have been easily fixed so wish i kept it now

dont remember actually buying it ..

Had a couple of Peugeot's, they just broke a lot. Had a fiat that was marginally worse. Proper mini broke once or twice but you can fix it with pound shop tools and less skill

Nissan has been good to me, Volvo too..both brands I've had good experiences of

Nissan Micra, had it 8 years, over 100k, never failed me. If I had the money I'd get a new one so this will do till it dies!

We had a VW Golf GTDI which was a nighmare, turbo went in the end so we got rid.

Most reliable was probably an 04 325i that we had that I only ever spent money on rear tyres and services in the 10 years we owned.

In my previous incarnation as an MOT inspector I’m going to have to say Japanese and Korean, but Das Teutons VW and Audi, BMW and MB sit near the bottom these days.

Approx 5000 MoTs rules of thumb-

- Old School Toyota Yaris and Corolla until 2006 are practically perfect in terms of real world cars. If Alfa did the styling but based them on these you’d never swap cars,

- Check the tyres have been replaced in full sets or pairs with decent quality boots. This tended to point to the owner actually looking after them.

- Batteries are the source of lots of sensor faults. A simple but overlooked fix.

- Buy with your head not heart. Shiney valets look great, I prefer shiny internals from servicing.

- Check MOT history online from gov - all the way back to 2005.

Current Honda is good except for an annoying suspension / steering issue. Think it may need new tie rod ends and/or the rack tightening. Obviously that needs a special tool that costs a bazillion pounds

but the most reliable of all has been my bedford RL 4x4 1959 truck ... 750,000 miles and could still drag a house up a hill no problem

I'd probably say most reliable I've had would be any of my Honda Civics (I've had 5 ranging from 1984-1996) lol absolutely spanked them on the road and track days and never fail to amaze me in both fun and reliability! Worst was probably my 2nd Volvo 340 but it still wasn't necessarily bad, just not as good as my other cars lol, was still great fun however!

I loved my Rover. Clutch has just gone, but damn that car did me proud, 2.1 TD, cheap to run fun to drive.

I now have a Skoda Fabia, love it.

Not really had any worst cars, although used to hate driving my Mum's Allegro back in the day.

Although I hate it the MK1 Renault Scenic we got for school run & dog seems to be doing just fine, avoid later ones with all the leccy crap though. Always a weak point on French cars & did for our Laguna on the end. Most reliable we've had was an BMW E30 325i Sport but they are no longer in the realms of an everyday car.

Worst car was definitely the 2.2 Zafria B, Mechanically that car was sound but electronlically it was the biggest pile of crap i had ever laid my eyes on and I've seen some bad shit

I have a natural talent for gravitating towards quirky yet entirely unreliable cars. For example, just this morning Heels’ Wheels decided to completely ignore the fact that she has blue tooth right in the middle of a phone call. She does things like that, just for shits and giggles I think.

The most reliable can I've ever had in 30 years of motoring is my current one which is a Suzuki Swift 1.5L. I think they look good, they're great both in urban and motorway driving and are easy to maintain. Also, they're spacious inside - my 6' partner has head room above him and doesn't feel 'claustrophobic'.

The worst car I've ever owned was a Subaru Legend. What a total POS that was!

Totally bomb proof looks like just another estate but the 2.5 turbo is probably the fastest most fun to drive estate/div ever...

And at 140 mph it's still accerelerating... oops so I'm told

Hubby and I have only ever owned one car each and they’ve both been pretty good.

I’ve got a Mazda mx5 and he has a skoda Octavia estate.

He did have his wiper seize up but it was a simple matter of taking them apart and greasing them before putting back which he and his step dad did. Had a rear shock blow which needed the garage to replace. Also had an issue with the gear selector which was taken apart, cleaned and reassembled.

My car has not had to visit the garage or our mechanical minded neighbour so far

i didnt know Honda made vans. i'd probably buy one if they did as ive had 3 accords and theyve been pretty good

thinking i might go for a ford transit connect as i really need something with room in the back and parts are cheap.hopefully fords are a bit more reliable these days

Over my many years, I've had the chance to drive all sorts, including Astons and Bentleys, but the one that really stole my heart was a bright red Mk II Astra Van!

I took it as part of a redundancy payment 25 years ago, with 50,000 hard miles on it, and I put another 100,000 on top of that! It had a few hickups, but never, ever failed to bring me home!

I carried just about everything in it, moved home in it, traveled widely and camped everywhere in it, made love in it (once with someone that I really shouldn't have!) and slept in the back of it in a snowdrift in wildest Scotland.

I finally had to let it go when they couldn't weld any more patches over the patches... but I still remember it dearly and miss it loads!

I drive an early Zafira now, which has given me just as much fun - but nothing sparks a smile like the memories of that little red van...

The best? 2010 Renault Laguna III 2.0 dCi. Only one expensive failure in 150K miles (air-con condenser) and never once left me stranded. Still running like new at 150K, and only needed a rear shock absorber to get through its 5th year MOT at this mileage. The current owner has it past 200 now, with no major mechanical issues (touch wood.)

Renault flushed the Laguna's reputation down the toilet with the Laguna II, which had numerous problems, especially with the 1.9dCi engine. The later 2.0 diesel is more Nissan than Renault. One bonus of that is that it's chain driven. In spite of being a solid car in its own right, the III never sold well in the UK, to the point that Renault axed the RHD model around 2012. There are very few on the roads, which makes owning one feel a bit special.

People trash French cars (particularly the electrics) but the computer systems on the Vauxhall that I have now make the Renault stuff look like pure quality.

The worst? Probably the 2005 Laguna II before it. The 1.9dCi ate its turbo at 70K, requiring a new engine. It started suffering from intermittent limp problems at 140Kish and apparently needed a new engine wiring loom (probably not fitted correctly when the engine was replaced.) I got rid at that point.

I have the new BMW 5 series G30...it's amazing, beautiful and just exquisite. Build quality is excellent and what car car of the year!

Just got rid of my 307 Peugeot and all I had to do was a clutch and tyres

Had good fuel economy diesel and got me everywhere

Also a megane has been great !

Nissan Honda and Mazda are all good as I've worked with the later two and didn't have any major problems to sort ?

In both cases vauxhall astra lol one did 170,000 miles,one died after I'd had it for 5,000 miles at total 105,000,luckily mileage expense had already paid for it

Iceland, but Aldi is closer..

Got a Fiat grande punto diesel that's got almost 180k miles on it,

Apart from a new battery and a clutch earlier this year, it's been really faithful..

And I still get over 60mpg out of it so can't complain.

fords best reliable, have had my focus 4 years only have minor repairs, have done over 50,000 miles since purchased. same with my fiesta before this.

my dad always buys ford cars, very reliable, he had a galaxy before did over 350,000 miles in it still nothing wrong with it when he sold it ran on lpg and petrol.

I always find it a bit silly when people say they had a "Citroen and it was a pos so I'll never buy another French car" or shit Fiat so I'll never buy another Italian. You never know these days where the components of your car were made. For example, your posh Merc A class uses the Renault diesel engine from the Clio and Captur.

And there are many other similar examples

Bought a second hand Mitsubishi Grandis goes like a bottle rocket plenty of room for mates or carrying stuff with the seats down.

Worse would be middle aged Peugeots keep away from these.

Alfa 147 GTa, ever time I drove her she wanted to kill me. Sometimes the electrics would work, sometimes not, the heated seat would come on in the middle of summer and make you feel like you'd pee'd yourself.. But every time you climbed out you had the biggest grin on your face..

Never really had a bad one. Just ordered an overfinch as my current svr is amazing and the supersport is meant to be a step up

VW T5 is (well monetary wise) by far the most unreliable vehicle I’ve ever owned.

I've loved my current Volkswagen, with its adaptive cruise control etc, I just point and shoot, not needing to brake etc.
