Would you be offended if you were an older woman and a guy said to you you have a great body ect for your age? I see alot of older women on here and im amazed at how great of a shape they are in for their ages Sometimes i dont believe them lol. Let me know what the general opinion is

If I’m being honest, it would be much nicer just to hear “you have a great body” without what can feel like a caveat being added to the sentance. That’s just my two cents though, and I’m sure plenty of ladies wouldn’t even give it a second thought.

Surely the fact there are many women with fantastic bodies at different age ranges means we should start challenging the ageist myths?

And how old is old?

And all bodies are fantastic really, just some you find attractive and some you don’t (but we all have our different attraction sparkers, so it’s not a one-size-fits-all topic)

i agree all bodies are fantastic but as we get older it becomes harder to maintain the physique you had when you were 20 if you know what i mean? Not trying to offend anyone here just trying to gain insight into how a womams mind works

I have a better shape and body in my forties than I ever had in my twenties. Unfortunately it took me decades to do something about being podgy so I will never know what it would have been like to be slimmer before gravity took hold. Rightly or wrongly, anyone saying I have a good body 'for my age' would piss me off slightly since it reminds me what I should have done years ago, with the benefit of hindsight.

Not entirely sure that’s true

My physique now (35) is spectacularly better than it was at 20. There are loads of people society may consider ‘old’ who have much more aesthetically pleasing physiques than a lot of people in there 20s.

I’d suggest your views (not yours personally, but everyones) on what is ‘old’ and ‘a fantastic/awful physique is largely down to what media you surround yourself/are surrounded by.

A twenty something lad who follows fitness addicts/models on instagram would have a different perception of fantastic than, say, a 40 something gym-going strong man competitor, or a 60 something marathon runner who doesn’t use the internet or read women’s magazines.

There must also be a difference between genders and what each perceives as a fantastic physique.

Plus, on an individual level. I may find a person to have what I’d consider an attractive body, yet another 35 year old married mum of two with the same level of education, similar social standing and location may think he/she is a minger!

I'm not sure that's true, in my 20s I was too busy enjoying life to worry about keeping in shape and healthy, I'm trimmer and fitter now than I've ever been. And I anticipate as little un gets older and less dependant I'll have more time to exercise so even if biologically it's harder life as you get older can make it easier to work on.

If you add "for your age " to any compliment you may as well not have bothered in the first place.

Yes, agree with this 100 %. It's a very subjective opinion (the ops)... And actually, did you know that the older you get the easier it is to gain muscle mass.. Fact. Google will back me up

Mine’s ok - but I’m friends with tigerlillycub - and she has an amazing body for a woman of ANY age! Most women in their twenties would envy her!

I DO know what people mean when they say it and I don’t have a problem with it! My body was ‘perfect ‘ in my early twenties pre-kids - but now I’ve got mummy jelly belly (large babies), squidgy tits due to breastfeeding, and around 50 000 thread veins due to carrying heavy babies and shit circulation - ergo I’ll take ‘for my age’ as a compliment (ish) as I know what they’re trying to say!

For my age and for having 3 kids lol.

Any compliment is appreciated. Beauty is in the eye of the beholder and I know I won’t be to everyone’s taste.

I don’t mind giving compliments either. I’m sure guys appreciate them too. Nice eyes and a great smile are always complimented.

Your body deteriorates its caused by oxygen essentially. But im not saying anyone cannot be attractive at any age im just being real. So if an older woman is in excellent shape i think its great. I know what you mean, and don’t entirely agree but I agree enough to proffer my advice to your query — and you sought a general response from women and I’d say generally you’re best off following the advice of the second poster — compliment but perhaps don’t add the age comment.

I don't. I think the look good for your age compliment is open to interpretation. It could mean you look great but you wouldn't if you were ten years younger or it could mean that you look so good that they can't believe you're the age you claim to be.

I think that as its usually meant as a compliment anyone receiving it should accept it as such. However I would still prefer a person to just say "you look good"

I find it annoying when I get people telling me I’m not my age because they think I look younger. I get annoyed when they do it in that way that’s actually accusing me of lying, like when people tell me I can’t be shy because I have naked pics up. why not look at it as a compliment and be happy they bothered to try and express it rather than suppress it.

Because they need something to feel insulted about. Or they are touchy about their age and looks.

But they’re allowed to be all of these things. And it answers the OP’s question to hear that some do find if offensive.

I personally wouldn’t mind as I don’t feel touchy about my age. Ask me when I’m older and I might though.

I allow people to say what they are thinking. That could be because I don't have body confidence issues, and I'm not sensitive about my age or appearance.

Those things don’t have to be mutually exclusive though.

Of course they don't. I allow people to mention my age, regardless. Why others don't like it only they know.

Hiding in the shadows

I was very fit & sporty on my 20s, health issues on my 30s saw a massive weight gain.

Now in my 40s,I'm fitter & healthier than I've ever been.

Being told I look good, is a nice compliment, but I don't see my age as an important factor.

What does amuse me though, is messages saying things like "no way your 47"

I mean why would I actually lie about my age & make myself older?

But I think being told you don't look your age is a compliment and I always take it that way.

However being told you're good 'for you age' shows, to me at least, an immature and stereotyped view of 'older' people "

It's not always young people (or men) that say it.
