Feeling pretty helpless.

Mrs N has got a bad dose of the baby 's today and there's nothing I can do that helps apart from hold her hair and make sure she stays hydrated. Any mum's with old wives takes that may ease her suffering, I'd be pathetically grateful for suggestions.

Possibly an obvious one but have you tried ginger biscuits? They’re supposed to help! X

Lol I ate so many ginger biscuits when I was pregnant, I think it's a bit of a placebo though and that you need something with ginger closer to its natural form to work.

Keep holding her hair and stroking her back, not much else you can do, I'm sure she appreciates it.

The midwife told me that, unlike a stomach bug, eating doesn’t make it worse but low blood sugar definitely will so tiny bits of food is good.

Sometimes texture is a problem. An ice lolly rather than a drink could be good. Or something dry rather than chewy or whatever.

If you can’t clean your teeth because the toothbrush in your mouth makes you gag, just rinse with mouthwash when you’re really struggling.

It will pass and it’s bloody horrible.

Congratulations on the baby. X

In the middle

Stem ginger is supposed to be good or arrowroot biscuits but unfortunately not much helps, I used to eat salt n vinegar crisps as they made my tum feel a bit better but different things work for different people, just keep the hydration up

Aww, I really sympathise as I was so ill with severe morning sickness with my first two. The only thing that helped me was gaviscon. I tried the ginger and all sorts of things. But holding her hair and stroking her back will be much appreciated I'm sure. X

Oh mannnnnnnn. I was in that place too, ginger biscuits kinda helped, but for me I couldn't chew them as food, I broke them into small bits and sucked them.

Naughty bumpkin.

Thank you all, she's pretty wiped out today. Throw in a migraine as well and she's just a smidge lower than her usual, exuberant self.

Is that safe to take in the first trimester?

Yes I remember that feeling well, just keep an eye on the sickness. Make sure she drinks and doesn't get dehydrated. Hopefully tomorrow is a better day x

Have to hand whatever she can face to eat or drink but don't overdo plain water, it may cause an electrolyte imbalance.

Lollies for sugar and salty snacks are often all anyone can face, even if it's just a tiny bit of each.

If she is weeing less and less and/or her wee gets dark and concentrated, call the hospital she is booked with as she may require IV fluids.

I'm on top of the sugary drinks bit, she's eating small bites too. I'm off up to the pharmacy to see what they can recommend.

I've no words of wisdom, but hope it passes soon for her. I'd have loved to have experienced morning/afternoon/evening sickness.

Buy her a hairband, that'll save you having to hold her hair back.

Oh you mean advice for your mrs...I've got nothing sorry.

You can get wristbands that stimulate a certain pressure point to help with sickness.

Other than that all I can offer is sympathy.

The doesn't have to be flat, it doesn't even need to be , any sugary drink will do.

sending hugs - i didnt suffer with this at all but take it as a positive - morning sickness is due to a high level of the right kind of hormones - so all good really - wait for the contractions - theyre painful but think of each one as one less til you see the babby xxx

"How’s the patient today my lovelies? Better I hope? X"

We spent this morning at the maternity unit following a slight scare but all is good. The little person is doing some somersaulting from what we could see on the ultrasound.

Aw - huge hugs! I know how scary it is when you think something may be going wrong! Several trips to the hospital when expecting my son but it turned out fine!

Lovely to have reassurance from the ultrasound - and an extra opportunity to see your precious baby!
