I grew some Butternut Squash for the first time this year I managed to get some 9 Squash,s off the plants, I cooked

Some last week in the oven with oil and

Seasoned with ground black pepper a bit

like swede in texture when I cut them, I enjoyed the flavour of them still trying to work out what they remind me of somewhere between swede and turnip perhaps? but more swede in flavour, I,ve just cut another one up and done the same, when growing one plant they can take up a lot of room but I might still grow them again next year, I know many people like them to eat or make soup from them, thou only small in size they can cover a bakeing tray when chopped up.. Has anybody else grown them to here ?

They can take really good spicing, so are fabulous roasted with chilli and cumin or used as a base in curries. Also roasted cubes with roasted red onions, toasted pine nuts, rocket and balsamic dressing on pasta. Nom.

Sounds lovely, I'll try that next time I buy one. Good to see you spa day was success by the way.

Yes I can see thats a lovely combination, unless its the black pepper I,ve put on the squash,s they seem quite hot/spicy?

The climate here seems warm enough for them to grow

would they in scotland? If so you only need space and plenty of water and feed when dry x

Pumpkin would be a new one for me to try, but courgettes are nice to eat I like to fry them, a few years ago a guy down the road used to put courgettes on his garden wall for people to take obviously a surplus he had but they were beautifui to eat.

If you get a plot on the allotment try and make sure you have easy access to a water supply, I remember at our local allotment before water was more available the majority of

people used sunken wells to get their water back in the 70,s ..

Lightly battered courgettes are especially delicious with lots of salt, although sadly not very healthy

Try spaghetti squash but don't take your eye off them, they grow like triffids!
