"Hello Friends Fabbers and Forumites. Work for the day is filled finished . Hurrah. Oh heavens what a soggy grey day here . Pooch and I have had. Quick blow the cob webs wander. We have returned to Taff towers to dry off and relax. The log burner is glowing merrily and a selection of albums chosen to listen too. (Toasting fork at the ready to warm some delicious crumpets later) I have quite a pickle of a decision to make. I fancy a good read I have a new book or do I use my newly acquired gift of a kindle? Which do you prefer and why? Kindle or Book. Taff and Pooch " im a bit of both. i love my kindle and having loads of books easily to hand GREAT but i like the feel of a book in my hands and turning pages and means i dont get tempted with reading more than one on the go!

"For me it's a book, maybe I'm old fashioned, but reading from paper is how you should read. I can see the benefit of kindle type machines for taking on holiday, less bulky etc, but you don't need to charge a book and it's far less likely to be stolen too. Also like someone above wrote there is great pleasure in passing books on and receiving books. Also browsing the charity book shelf in many supermarkets and banks is a must lol " I love a browse in the charity shops and I like to read in the bath with a glass of wine so if you drop said book it's all good, think a kindle would not last long in my world lol...

"No brainer.....book all day! Best form of escapism for me reading...but it's gotta include turning pages, folding corners and occasionally dropping in the bath. All adds to the experience! "

"For me it's a book, maybe I'm old fashioned, but reading from paper is how you should read. " Why? It's the same words in the same order. And I never get the thing about the way books smell. I hate the smell of the average mass market paperback. It's interesting that on Amazon's forums there are a lot of people with dyslexia who prefer the Kindle, I think because you can change font, size and layout, and they're great for the visually impaired too.

A kindle can obtain books of a certain age which may not be easy to obtain otherwise if copies are not freely available.

"Never have tech when it's not needed. Book. No question. I would barely read if it had to be on a screen..we have enough bloody screens in our lives without them invading the most simple of pleasures. " For me its not a simply pleasure reading a paper book because i find them difficult and painful to hold and turn the pages. Im limited because of the print size in a paper book. Also paper books are usually more expensive so that limits me too. Also i get a far bigger range to choose from with a Kindle. I read far more now i have a Kindle.

"For me it's gotta be a book, hate reading off a screen for long it makes my eyes all fuzzy " I find this too..I read before bed and find a Kindle has the effect of not making me tired but just makes me bleary eyed. They're a bit clinical and you loose all the warmth too. I like the sound and feel of paper on paper when page turning too...they've killed that just turning it into a screen swipe. And book shops! I can spend ages up and down the isles...reading is an whole experience of which only a small part is looking at words It's such a different experience on a screen it leaves me cold

" Afraid I was a terrible book snob, until I realised how convenient a kindle is to store, purchase and browse books. I went with progress." Does being a terrible book snob mean you are not very good at book snobbery If so I could give you some reading material more suited to your ability
