Friendliest place in the UK?

I'd like to nominate Birmingham.

Went there for an art exhibition.

Parked in multi story and standing by the car looking for change in my pockets. Lady walks past and says with out being asked "I have change for a fiver if you need it".

Step out onto the street and feel thoroughly overwhelmed and lost. Long time since I'd been to a big city. A guy walks past and asks us if we're ok then, proceeds to give us directions.

Halfway through following the guys directions we start to debate whether we should have gone left instead at the last landmark . A group of dodgy intimidating looking youths overhears our conversation and nice as pie points us back in the right direction. Looks can be decieving .

Well done Birmingham...what lovely friendly people.

I need to travel more, but for me I'd say Teesside, I've only been once and it was 20yrs ago but I remember being smiled at in the street and people welcoming us. Went clubbing and people were just talking to us like they'd known us forever.

Hmmmm.....

We've been all over the country...and I mean ALL over. I would say the friendliest people we've met are in the Sheltands. Amazingly sweet and kind people up there. Everyone treated us almost like we were extended family - from random people in the street to shop owners and even to the people we rented our room from. We had people take time to show us touristy nonesense, to give us advice, or even just to have extended chats. The community up there is lovely.

With you on Birmingham- only city I’ve been to where drivers are nice to you (smile and let you in) if you’re in the wrong lane (in Manchester they snarl and beep endlessly!). Was there for a hotel meet on New Year’s Eve. After being smiled at/let in lane by several drivers, two Asian padestrians actually took the time to walk ahead of my car for a couple of hundred yards to show me the entrance to the car park I was looking for! Lovely, lovely guys!

Other than Birmingham I’d say the north west (but not Manchester) - and the people of Stratford Upon Avon were very lovely when I visited alone for a few days in the summer!

First time I drove in Southern Ireland, indicated to overtake and the car in front just pulled into the hard shoulder to let me past. This happened a few times and I was thinking "What the". Wasn't long before I embraced it and started doing the same myself. Lovely place

Very proud to be a Brummie today. Lovely comments. It has it's tough places but generally a great place to live. I've always found the residents of Liverpool to be extremely welcoming and what a cracking place to vist. The docks are brilliant for culture and a pint.

Ok guys let's get real, anyone saying London has blatantly never been north of the Watford Gap! Try chatting to anyone on public transport in London and they think you're an axe murderer!

Personally I'd say Northerners are pretty friendly folk (unless you wear your Utd shirt in Liverpool or Leeds ). Have met plenty of decent people across the country tho so I guess a negative experience in one particular area may give you a skewed judgment on the whole local population.

I find most places friendly and helpful if you approach everything with the right attitude

London is great, smaller towns are usually lovely. I've been to lots of cities up and down and never noticed anything untoward.

It's easier or me to say that Norfolk & Suffolk are not that great

I love London, but having visited a few times with a pushchair I'd say its far from friendly, everywhere else we've used public transport with pushchairs there have always been offers of help, London you are just invisible.

Much better now we have no pushchairs and opt to walk over taking the tube.
