Mold

With Stop this or that ober/ember;

Chuggers in the street;

The only way to get into a marathon is to be sponsored;

And so on...

The competition to get your shekels seems relentless

Does it make you donate more, or less?

I do my own personal contributions to a select few charity’s , so I don’t feel the need to add to any others as I feel I’ve done my bit

I am suffering from charity fatigue through watching so many requests for 'just two pounds' etc on tele. No doubt all are good causes and deserving of support but the sheer volume of requests just makes me want to switch off.

My charity fatigue will kick in in a few weeks time when tax dodging mulFi millionaires promote themselves and their latest product on children in need while telling people to give generously

This for me to. The only other time I do give is around remembrance day as I'm a veteran myself.

Those who knock on my door just get a no not interested and the door shut in their face.

Hiding in the shadows

I work part time for 2 charities that support service personnel.

I'll be out a lot over the next few weeks with my poppy boxes.

I also take part in several major sporting events a year to raise funds for them

In an ideal world we wouldn't need charity at all.

In an ideal world we certainly wouldn't need paid on commission charity fundraisers.

In an ideal world the money you donate would actually go to the cause it's supposed to. Worldwide most goes to corrupt officials. More locally the money goes to administration cost and making investments in property and stocks.

I wouldn't limit myself to paying one particular charity by a regular standing order. Offer to pay their charity online as a one off payment. Save your cash for personal appeals or supporting your friends and family in their charitable efforts.

I run a small charity so give a lot of my time and money to that but also give to another charity. Plus I always give to the poppy appeal x

I cant disagree .....

But only a tiny fraction of administration costs incurred by major charities goes on salaries

You’d be shocked at how much money some charities waste. I used to work in the hospitality department of a university. One particular well known national charity would hold twice yearly conferences with us. It was basically a 5 day, all expenses paid piss up! They would hold an event every night including as much alcohol as you could drink, silver service food, entertainment, games etc.

I once saw the bill for one of these conferences and the total cost came in at over £750 000!

Since then I have never donated a single penny to this particular charity, even when I worked for a company who have them as a corporate charity partner and it was expected that the staff would give to them

I donate regularly to two charities and support others when I can #polishhalo. I get very annoyed when the two that get my money every month and have done for years call me and ask for more. But they need to do what they can.

I too get fed up when people who are more wealthy than I will ever be put sad faces on and ask me to donate what I can. I'm not a fan of Sharon Osbourne but I admired her actions last night in donating money immediately after asking us to.

So, what was the question again? Charity fatigue...maybe.

I'm not saying it doesn't happen but when you've handed your lunch to a dying mother of an emancipated child and the mother doesn't know whether to r=eat the food so her child dies in warm arms or you feed the child and the child wakes the next day in the mothers dead arms you don't dwell on shite like that

My mother suffers with MS so since I was 20 I have fully been committed to doing for this charity. I'm not a great lover of being stopped in the street or the TV adverts asking for my money, but I will give to something that is close to me or mine..

Always up for doing something as without us, what would happen. Few more charity bike rides and other silly things on the way.

Sidebar... Does anyone remember those ladies giving lavender out in the street!! Lol

"I can't give financially, however I would give my time etc."

Time is exactly what the most needy charities really need in my opinion. It's easy to give money you have, but time is the most limited resource we have, so well done.

Shite like that as you so eloquently put it makes a person realise that there are organisations who will use a kind and generous gift to fund the cause the gift was intended for and not a managers piss up!

As such, I choose to support smaller, local charities who receive no assistance from government or corporate partners and rely purely on donations

My mum has MS too and I support our local branch of the MS society. The funds raised help local people like my mum. Our branch offers all sorts of support such as welfare advice, grants for home adaptations, subsidised hyperbaric oxygen therapy and regular support group meetings and coffee mornings.

The only services my mum uses is to go to a coffee morning once a month so she doesn't personally benefit much but other people living locally with this awful disease do.

I would rather support a charity close to home where your donations can and do make a real difference to the lives of those who need it rather than support a large, national charity that spends a lot on admin and directors salaries.

Years ago i used to donate regularly to cancer research but not any more though. Considering the sheer volume of money they take in, i have never been able to come to terms with the vast cost of cancer drugs and then NICE not allowing the drugs to be used because of cost.

As a biker i now only donate to the West Midlands Air Ambulance, not only in money terms but also in raising money as well. At least i can see the end result working to save lives. Who knows, i may even need it myself one day

I understand why they do it but it pisses me off and I won't donate to them. The really intense tv adverts should be banned.

My mum is similar with the coffee mornings and stuff, she goes too and hosts, it's also nice now she has moved and lived closer to me, she was over 250 miles away for 27 years, but now she is 6 miles. My time to help look after and have met the local ms people as well, nice bunch of people.

I also do stuff for animal welfare as well I'm a big softy and always had pets, hate to see them suffer when they don't even have a voice to cry for help, it's all in the eyes.
