What is it about the little pricks we hate eh....scare the beejeebas out of me and by now i should be used to them....

There is nothing scary about them to me, I could have a blood test any time and not be worried whatsover.

The only time I was a bit nervous was when I had to have a needle inserted into my eye. I wasnt frightened of the needle, but I was of the initial reflex reaction of wanting to jump when I could see it close. Luckily I kept very still

Mind ya, was once in the next hospital bed to someone having a lumbar puncture ... and that did sound fecking nippy.

I hate needles, never have them at the dentist for fillings, to me the pain of a needle is worse

i dontmind needles, am used to them now, but i have learnt to tell them where a good vein is as have some nurses wiggle the needles about in my arm to find one

Im not squeamish about blood, urine, faeces etc. The only thing that does turn my stomach is phlegm.

it's not the needle i hate, it's that sound of rushing blood when they attach the syringe to take a sample.

i asked dracula in a nurses outfit last week what it was and she said the put beads in the syringe to preserve the sample

it's the blood hitting the beads that makes that rushing noise

Its great how they take multiple bloods now... one needle, push up valve, insert the different sample bottles being fascinated by the technology of it all takes your mind off the discomfort.

I don't have a problem with needles, but Tod hates them.

He says it's not the pain, but the thought of having something man made in his skin that freaks him out.

I've a real issue with needles.

All stems back to a very bad experience when a doc tried to get blood from an artery, missed, hit something else and I passed out. Makes me shudder just to think about it

I'm not a fan of needles either, but for me they are literally life savers. I'm sat here at the moment with 2 15guage needles stuck in my arm as the blood is being pumped round the dialysis machine for the next few hours. Yet I still cringe when they want a blood sample at the hospital an want to stick me with a relatively small needle.

I've had no choice but to get over my phobia. I was at the point i'd nearly faint when having bloods at the docs. Then a few moths ago we went through our first round of IVF.

It took 18 minutes for me to break skin the first time but I did it and I was so proud. We're about to start our second round so just gearing up again, but I know it won't be as bad as I'm thinking it will be.

You do what you have to do.

i'm really not good with needles but i'm ok with giving injections as our oldest lad became diabetic at the age of 6 so i had to suck it up and get on with it but i'm still a baby when it comes to having them used on me but definately better than i used to be thankfully as i felt if he could do it at such a young age then i should sort myself out and just get on with it

although that said when the nurse informed me i'm missing some inoculations i should of had at 16 (trying to work out how its taken 24 years to realise i hadn't had them )and asked me to make an appointment for them as i left the surgery well i just walked straight past reception oopppsssss, well they should know by now if they don't get me whilst i'm already in there then more fool them

Many years ago did the training for taking blood and doing injections.

Worst part was being the pin cushion for someone else on the course to have a first stab at.

Trick was to keep talking to people, and you could with some be done before they noticed. August was worst time, as even though just a technician, had more experience than the junior house officers.

If squeamish about arm injections, think about top of your feet, used to have to do those!!!
