Hi. Any suffers out there ?

I’ve recently been diagnosed and my confidence has well and truly nose dived.

I dreed getting up in the morning just in case I see a pillow covered in my hair.

At the moment changing hair style has hidden the areas.

Any words of wisdom ?

I've not been diagnosed with it but my hair is definitely thinning in places and every morning my pillow is covered in hair. Like you I'm managing to cover it with my hair style. I've no words of wisdom to offer but have every sympathy. I know a couple of my friends have had it and completely lost their hair but have had some of the headscarves and look great. I think worrying about it doesn't help but it's one of those things that the body does. And Gail porter really rocked the bald look. I'm sure there's something out there to help strengthen the hair you have and keep that. Hopefully you won't lose it all though the patches can be equally as distressing x

I’m currently seeing a specialist about medication. I’m so aware of it so it causes more stress and they say it can be stressed related

Try hair jazz. The method they recommend to use it stimulates the hair follicles so even if they’re empty they start working again. I’ve had so much new hair growth since using it my hairdresser keeps threatening to charge me extra

As already mentioned, stressing about it will make it worse. Although it’s easier said than done, try not to think about it. Mindfulness, breathing techniques, yoga and rescue remedy are all recommended to help chronic/acute anxiety. Might be worth a go

Yes definitely worse when stressed. But needs can help, and massage to stimulate the hair follicles x

I’ve cancelled my hair appointment. Don’t want my hair dresser seeing me.

I used to have a middle parting but changed to a side parting to hid it.

I would still go, maybe she would have some good ideas to help you conceal it as best as possible. They see that more often than you think . Big ((((hugs)))) x

You definitely shouldn't worry about it - when I was a kid the only person with no hair was Duncan Goodhew but that's all changed now; people are much less surprised to see a person (yes, even women) with no hair, even if yours gets that far.

Anyone who's experienced chemo treatment knows that's it's a common side effect, you're far from alone with it.

Has the doctor suggested anything to help with the stress?

Oh Jane I'm so sorry to hear this. I completely understand how you feel. It is absolutely devastating for a woman to lose her hair or parts of it. While people don't bat an eyelid at a bald bloke it's not quite the same for women. I have alopecia and will never get my hair back. I have regular nightmares about going bald and being laughed at etc. I'm often mistaken for a man because of my work uniform.

Have you been diagnosed with a particular type? Eg, will yours come back in time?

The tips I have are, color your hair lighter if it's currently dark, the contrast between scalp and skin will be less noticeable. And I also went pixie short, a complete change for me and got me many compliments. Now even that is looking dodgy so currently wondering what my next step is..

If you would like pics please pm me.

If you need a sympathetic ear, I'm here.

Best wishes. X
