If it works for both parties and they have each had a chance to explain their boundaries and each respect the other’s choices, I would imagine for a time it could work out. None of us know you though, or your circumstances OP.

To us, an open relationship is when you go off, on your own, to play with other people, go on dates etc, that's why I said it wasn't for us, we only meet together and play in the same room. It obviously means different things to different people.

Personally if you're going to have a open relationship you might as well just not date and just become casual sex. I'm getting that like my ex many years ago wanted the relationship so the other person is their to fill the gap his sex partners had no interest in. If the partner isn't interested then do the decent thing close the book on that chapter or leave.

You see I'd say an open relationship is where a primary couple have sexual encounters with others independently of each other.

When you start talking about dates and emotions you cross over into the realm of polyamoury. (you can also be poly and in an open relationship)

Poly is super hard work. But really worth putting the effort in if that is what you're thinking of.
