Car insurance

Just had my renewal quote so decided to do some research and see if I could get it cheaper.

Owned my car for a year and drove on L plates until May when I passed my test. Original insurance was £450 on L plates and only went up to £650 when I passed.

During my research the cheapest on comparison sites was £700 and my renewal quote is £620. I decided to look at Tesco as hubby has his through there. Unlike every other insurer I’ve had quotes with, they will not accept any no claims earned prior to passing my test and also will not accept the 3.5 years no claims I’ve earned with my Vespa. I was shocked that they wanted to charge me £2400 for less cover and a higher excess than I have now. The weird thing is that when hubby added me as a named driver to his policy with them he got a refund!

How do they work this stuff out?

Some insurers will not accept no claims bonus from Bike insurance

With regards to the discount when added to you hubby policy. I assume he is still the main driver and adding a spouse would give you an insured and spouse discount ( can be around 10%). Married men are meant to be a lower risk then non married.

Were you second named driver on L plates then going to fully comp single named insurance?

My renewal price was over £100 cheaper than the comparison sites. The cheapest on the comparison sites was the same policy with the same insurer too.

My first year's insurance was with Tesco as they came up cheapest on the comparison sites but their renewal quote came up over £200 more despite the fact I now had one year of driving experience and no claims. I took out the new policy with esure and saved £900 on what I paid the first year.

Last year my renewal was around £650. I did the whole comparison thing and the best quote was my current insurer at a cost of £1900!!

Nope main driver with hubby and father in law as additional named drivers. Fully comp from day one

I always shop around at renewal time however savings are harder to come by now as my insurance this year is only £207.

My scooter insurance is like that. I only pay £80 a year, it can’t go any lower.

My renewal came in at £693 which is £200 more than last year. (Adrian flux)

I now have 9 years no claims.

I rang them and the best they could do at that point was £593 at which point I said I would be looking elsewhere.

They said give us a day or so and they woukd see what they could do.

The next day they said they would offer me it for £400... I snapped there hands off.

Weird how they can all of a sudden knock £300 off over night

That annoys me if I'm being honest, why can't they give you the best price to start with?

I use Bennets for my Vespa and they've always given me a lower renewal price than I can find for a new policy elsewhere.

browse around then call insurance ask for renewal price, and then mention while on line you have a quote from another company, can you come close or beat it, as its such a shame to move when if you can do it the same or lower i can stay another year.

Having an experienced driver named on your policy will also reduce premiums

Everything is increasing car insurance. Have you tried reducing your mileage I myself was over estimating my own and saved myself a few hundred pounds, also have you changed your car? Could be that reason. Also have you changed your job or hours you work that might also effect it. I myself hate driving now because to many other people are taking unnecessary risks, which increases car insurance prices overall.

Try Co-op Insurance Services, I've never had any problems and they are super fast too.

I had a very interesting conversation with the guy who works for one of the companies I phoned.

He told me that even if I had 10 years of no claims driving as the main driver on L plates, most insurers disregard that as soon as you pass your test. That’s why all the quotes I’ve had are so expensive. He also told me to grab my renewal with both hands as I won’t find a cheaper deal elsewhere
