So i've just replied to a post on here, and its just made me wonder? I have had heart surgery and been left with a scar from left to right under my chest, had an infection in it which caused it to not fade as good- do scars put people off? Personaly im proud of it as shows i fought and still here.

They don’t put me off. Tummy full of stretch marks, scars on my right hand and chicken pops scars on my forehead

Wouldn't put me off at all OP - scars and lumps and bumps etc are what make someone the person they are - if there's an attraction there why would it matter that they had a scar or stretch marks etc.

I think its more the fact of where it is that bothers me, i have stretch marks ( 3kids) a scar top of my right leg due to the surgery, and scars on my stomach due to feeding me, My oldest sons dart board had less marks lol.

I understand how you feel but i think you should try to view them in a more positive light. Not wanting to sound cheesy but try to see them as nothing more than the titles to chapters in your book of life, each one is a story and a reference point to what you've been through.

All my scars are self inflicted and a result of stupidity, negligence or both, hardly the stuff of legend.

I have two nasty scars on my right leg due to two nasty breaks that had to have metal work

I'm not ashamed of them they make me unique

I call them my war wounds

I have a scar on my leg from when i was run over by a tractor i was driving at the time. Is that the kind of thing you mean?

Im not sensitive about talking why i have them,, i've just had comments about the surgery scar in the pastand does make me think i wish it was'nt there at times.

Scars are cool. It shows you survived.

I will have a fantastic scar in a few years time when I have to have my knee replaced. The rest of my scars involve beer and bad decisions

I have a lot of scars an hate them. So I looked at getting some scarification to jazz them up. Only a few places will do that. An then I had micro derma braison done on them to help them heal an fade. They arnt as noticeable. I’m starting to like them now. I think it’s all about how they make you feel.

I remember seeing an episode of Tattoo Fixers where a lady came in who had what (from memory) was a similar sounding scar to yours and wanted to embrace it by incorporating it into a tattoo - ended up with a beautiful rose design where the scar formed the stem.

Not suggesting you do that at all OP is just a story of how someone used their scar in a positive way - as I said earlier I the thread, to me a scar is all part of the overall person and what makes that person them

If i did that it would cost a small fortune lol, goes from my left to right side- if memory serves me right it was 83 stitches?

As someone who really isn't comfortable at all about a big scar I've had since a kid, this made me cry a bit! In a good way!

I have a scar on my chin from a knife attack years ago my gf loves it and I have meet a few ladies that like scars in a big way. I don’t necessarily understand it but I’m happy I’ve meet them as before I was self conscious but like everything it’s all subjective and down to peoples likes and dislikes.

Male half, I have one half way up my abdomen that goes all the way from left to right across my torso and one that is almost the circumference of my upper thigh. They are both massive and look horrid.

I can’t help it they are there if somebody doesn’t like them that’s there beef not mine.

Personally no, scars tell a story of how we became who we are. I know people who have both and it doesnt affect who they are now.

I'd be a hypocrite if they did, I've got loads of smaller scars and one very ugly one that even scared my niece when she saw it for the first time recently.

It wouldn’t put me off one bit, but then I’ve had a kidney transplant and have several scars. Not that you asked but blimey you look good on it! A fighter as others have already said.

I get quite self-conscious about it around new people and usually dress to conceal it (god bless you suspender belts.. and corsets... and bodystockings!), but only 1 person has ever asked me about it. I also have another large scar in a less obvious place, but its faded pretty well and I don't know if anyone's ever really noticed it.

I can't say a scar has ever put me off meeting someone... But then I tend not to notice these things... I'm more attracted to and stimulated by minds than bodies

Well said Dr prod... They are markers of some part of our journey through life, so however you came about them, they are a part of you, me, us... Certainly does not detract from who that person is and should never be a reason to feel less desired or in fact be less desired, those that think that way or probably not worth your time anyways.. Imo

They maybe direct but also being mindful of how you may react if they asked you about something they believe you might be sensitive to, ie. They avoid talking to you about your scars because they're aware you're self conscious about them, coupled with the possibility that it doesn't bother them.

Exactly, the scars we have tell about our lives , what we have done , some tell us how stupid we were when we were younger , but it's the realisation of that that makes you cop on , after that biblical length response, no they are not in the least a turn off

I ( the Mrs half ) have a Cesarian scar from 2 of my children so it's quite obvious ....I really hate and get paranoid about it but luckily it's low down and can't be seen in underwear .....didn't realise how much it bothered me though till we started swinging and the realisation of other people other than my husband seeing it makes me really self conscious when we meet new people . I think most people accept scars and stretch marks but it doesnt help your own thoughts creeping in wondering what they think of them .

My scars are part of my life. Lumps bumps and scars.

I always find them fascinating. I would run my fingers over them if allowed. Love how scars feel different to "normal" skin.

It's all part of who you are however you got them.

Same here with the c section scars. Doesn't bother me too much now as No1 was an emergency and neither me nor the baby would have been here without it.

I do have a large birthmark on my shoulder though and often see people looking at it in the summer. One lovely individual on a night out asked me if it was a shark bite. Yep, same one that got your face mate. That shut her up.

I’ve got quite a few scars, my one across my bikini line is quite faded and doesn’t bother me too much. I’ve got numerous ones across my stomach from a few keyhole surgeries and one that I am conscious of on my breast. But they tell the story of how I’m still here. X
