Freaky morning

Jump to newest

It's 10.30am and there's such a weird, hazy, pinkish half light at the moment it's almost as though i've woken up on another planet. There's little sound to be heard save for the rushing of the wind through the trees, all the sheep are layed down and the birds are almost all silent. It's a bit freaky.

It’s just the same up in Lancashire, so suspect it’s most of the country? There’s a very strange atmosphere

That's it exactly, last time i experienced anything close to this was the eclipse in 1999.

It's only because we're about to have some bad weather.

Great for kite surfing....if you're in to that sort of thing

A little weird up in the Cotswolds too, although the wind is getting up now, it's warm. The cloud cover is strange and you can look at the sun unprotected. teotwawki!

I've spent my entire working life outdoors, i've seen the prelude to bad weather umpteen times. This feels different.

It's not so common. We are on thecedge if a decayed hurricane. They don't normally make it this far east..

The track has been different from more normal Atlantic systems we tend to get. More southwesterly as opposed to westerly.

Leeds

Apparently it's all down to a connected chain of events.

Hurricane Ophelia is the main cause. In its journey it's picked up large amounts of dust from the Sahara. It's also brought across smoke and ash from the Forrest fires in Portugal and Spain. All this has led to the sights we've all witnessed today.

It was eerie in Leeds this morning though. We had fog, and when that lifted we were presented with orange/red skies.

Possibly a once in a lifetime experience.

As an aside, it's exactly 30 years ago today that Michael Fish told everyone there wasn't a hurricane on the way!
