I have seen Battle Royal on TV, and don't like it. Probably because the cast is too young for my liking.

Love 'Manon des Sources' & 'Jean de Florette'..

Recent ones I'd recommend include 'la tete en friche' (released in the UK as 'my afternoons with Margeuritte'), 'of gods and men' and the frankly awe-inspiring documentary 'Benda Bilili!'..

Not exactly mate, but the director also directed very similar films (albeit maybe not up to the standard of Spirited Away in my opinion, but still very good)

Nausicaä

Castle in the Sky

My Neighbor Totoro

Kiki's Delivery Service

Porco Rosso

Princess Mononoke

Howl's Moving Castle

Ponyo

I've watched most of these, yeah they're for kids, but like Shrek, sometimes animated media transcends age when it becomes very good.

Ah, you got me

There IS a two part film made for TV. It's very good, but very very hard to find. Just as the wiki says, "It was not widely released outside of Norway".

Contact me if you want a copy. It'd be shame for something so rare and good to disappear completely, there's not even hardly any seeds for it.

Have all those studio Ghibli films.

As has been said before, they appeal to all ages.

I also have Il Postino starring Massimo Troisi in his last ever role before he died.

The film is about a postmans relationship with a poet he delivers to, Pablo Neruda. Neruda helps the character Mario Ruoppolo discover how to write prose and poetry and use it to eventually woo the local beauty he is in love with.

Oldboy is actually Korean, but I didn't post just to be pedantic - the fella behind it, Chan Wook-Park (sp?) made two awesome 'sequels/prequels/companion pieces' well worth checking , Lady Vengeance and Sympathy for Mr Vengeance..

Check 'em out quick, because Hollywood has decided (groan!) to remake Oldboy, with Josh Brolin in the lead role. Why do they do this????

Abnormal Beauty / Audition / 2046 /

Ichi the Killer / Chungking Express /

Sex and Lucia / Let the Right one in /

The Red Squirrel / Lovers of the Arctic Circle / Visitor Q / A Tale of Two Sisters / The Sweet Hereafter

Sorry there's so many, but I just love these, lots of different genres, but would really recommend anything with 'Kar Wai Wongs' name attached, his work is visually captivating! and he uses 'Tony Leung' often who is soooo handsome! and very sexy in 'Lust, Caution' mmm great sexy scene in that one

"

one of my favourite films is "tie me up tie me down" which is spanish.. it is brilliant"

I've yet to see anything by Almodovar that I've not liked! always full of Love, Sex and death, always funny and easy to take even in the darker moments.

...come to think of it, I don't think I've seen a Spanish film I've hated lol! they are very passionate and don't mind being obtuse.. which I really like

Wings of Desire by Wim Wenders is stunning. A story of 2 angels who wander Berlin listening to the thoughts of people in the city, then one of the angels falls in love and wants to become mortal. Also has the best cameo in any film by Peter Falk. This film was remade as City of Angel and destroyed by Nick Cage and Meg Ryan, but the original is beautiful
