Although I'm not a follower of any religion I do have a faith .....

So I don't see change my behaviour on Sundays but I do feel Sunday is different from the others in the same we atheists celebrate Easter and Christmas ......

Sundays have changed when I was young it was Sunday school twice also no shops open except for corner shop till lunch time and no kids playing out in the streets

To be fair, both Christmas and Easter were originally Pagan festivals which the early Christians adopted to encourage the Pagans to join them.

Personally though, I don't understand why Sunday should be hailed as special in a country where less than 50% of the population doesn't identify with ANY religion (Never mind Christianity).

Yes it has.

I think we're heading for a 24/7 retail availability society and my opinion is that's a bad thing. It doesn't allow for time to just sit back and think. I feel the same way about Boxing Day sales.

Obviously if I want a pint of milk at 10 pm on a Sunday evening it's different.

Why doesn`t it give you time to think?

You have to go and spend time shopping either way, the only difference is the convenience to do it at a time to suit you. It can even give you more time if the shops arent as busy because everyone isn`t forced to go at the same, restricted times.

I think that in general it contributes to the constant fast pace of life. If there's one day a week when you can't go and buy a new pair of shoes or a loaf of bread it slows life down a bit on that day. It's obvious that I'm in the minority or the shops would be empty on sundays

You don't actually have to go shoe shopping and stocking up on milk on Sundays if you don't want to you know. The option to go to church, go home and get stuffed on roast beef, walk in the park and then fall asleep on the sofa watching Songs of Praise is still there for those who seem to like that sort of thing.

I like employees to have choices over whether they work on Sunday. Otherwise we aren't a religious country.
