A discussion on the radio earlier about an autistic non verbal boy, reported on the fact that he had written so very eloquently about his own thoughts and feelings, and his inability to express himself verbally.

So whilst so many of us on the forums write our opinions with varying styles, how different are you in person talking and debating compared to your written style? Are you similar or completely different?

What an interesting thought - for me there is little difference between written and verbal expression but it varies according to the company and context.

It is useful to bear this in mind when jumping to conclusions about somebody's less competent written expression - dyslexic people are sometimes beautifully eloquent in speaking, yet struggle to write.

i feel like I'm more eloquent in person than via text. Reading and writing has never been a strong point of mine however I'm able to speak well.

You Know, I rarely swear when I write, but like to deliver the odd cuss where appropriate in person. As for speed...when I travel the world no one understands me because I talk so fast

You're right my friend, but in fairness that's why we shouldn't be in contempt of those who preach it's correct use to ensure that it's not misread!

Sadly email is the new form of management and we lose sincerity and compassion in messages quite easily.

He has similar difficulties yet is one of the most popular guys on the forum

the spelling police are easy to deal ...with ignore them. This is txt not Wuthering Heights!

No one here who has any ounce of humanity should ever make you feel bad because of issues that are often outside your control.

In fairness I haven't seen the so called "spelling Police " of late.

Most people accept things in the forums I believe.

However this thread wasn't about the correct use of grammar but more so how you communicate in person compared to text.

Are you more likely to be critical or direct, or mire likely to pause and reflect whilst you pen a response to a subject?

I'm not very quick-witted so having time to think about things helps me in the Forum. I am perfectly capable of holding a conversation in person and in a group of people but I can be quite quiet. I am able to express myself a little more in the Forum.

Strangely enough email is the only communication I have with my 2 young children's mother, and i see them mon-fri. Less awkward than face to face.

I think I'm the same. Both verbally and written in always in a rush to get everything out before I forget it. So it's all in sporadic sentences with lots of mistakes

It can be hard coming to terms with dyslexia, especially with a diagnosis as an adult. But learning to touch type turned my life around and I now just see it as a quirk.

It does mean, for me, that my posts are often the stream of conscious that is tumbling out of my brain, it's created a monster in that I have very little in the way of filter because I pretty much type with my eyes closed (so I don't see the blank paper/page/box) and it's roughly what I would say if I was speaking out loud (although like I said, with no filter)

I guess that makes me more rambly. But more honest.

Seeside is an admirable man, reading his posts is like 2nd nature to me now and sometimes more legible than other peoples posts.

I think hard about responses and alternative words I can use , I think hard about all responses tbf I wouldn't to offend someone due to a misunderstanding

I find it easier to put emotions in a written form. I usually tear up, if I have to say what I feel, if it is very emotional.

I talk super fast without many full stops when I get going, but can't always get out what I want to say very well. Better ideas always pop out at me later or if I was to write them down. Probably the person i am on paper is more me. I do reign myself in a bit in person depending on who I'm with.

Would rather talk face to face than on a phone, I actively avoid ever answering a phone
