Is anyone else suffering with the virus that is going around.

Bad headache fever and tummy upset. I've had it two days and feel very ill.

I will be getting the flu jab this year for the first time, I had the 'real' flu 7 months ago, it lasted 4 weeks! Never again.

The flu jab can bring on Cold symptoms and make you feel crap. But this virus is going around... Had it myself... without the flu job.

The flu jab should be taken every year if you are eligible. It protects against the most likely flu virus's each year.

My job is a nurse so I do know what I am talking about. And I take the flu jab every year.

The difference between having influenza and having a cold (other virus infections may be inserted here) is that, with a cold you would still be able to pick up the fifty pound note that I had placed on the floor at the other side of the room.

True! Makes me laugh when people phone in sick with the flu and say they'll be back in tomorrow!

Got my jab a few days ago, no side effects thankfully.

Not me personally, but my younger son has had it. It was hideous and lasted about 5 days. So the bad news is, you may still have a couple of days to go.... the good news is, if that’s the case, you’re more than half way there. Good luck, hope you feel better soon. Plenty of fluids, and rest as much as you can as you will feel rather wiped out!!

As for the flu jab! Bugger that eveyone year I used to get it and always had a reaction to it..then the last time I had it in got full blown flu.

So I takes my chances now as the average over 30 year old only catches every 5 years.

I think the flu jab only protects against the most common strains of it so you could still catch a different strain. But this year was my first time having the jab as my bout of flu 8 months ago had me off work for a month!

I was going to say that what you described didn't sound like the flu.

Many people mistake a heavy cold for flu .

Influenza is massively different from a cold.

And noro virus is a different beast all together.

Plenty of water and Starve yourself for 24 hrs.

It's not a live vaccine so you can't get flu from it

I have a friend who's a pharmacist, he was telling me that most of our flu bugs come from Australia and that this years is particularly nasty.

Thankfully the flu jab this year is very close to the strain that's coming and has been advising that everyone have the jab

If you have diarrhoea eat some gravy granules, it doesn't cure it but it does thicken it up

All I can say is all the best and you,ll need plenty of rest afterwards.. a local school to me over 50 pupils got the novovirus and sent home.

Get some Dioralyte from the local chemist to stop you getting dehydrated - you may have to stick to that for a couple of days then start on consomme and dry toast! What are you trying to eat?

Yeah, avoid all milk and dairy, if dry toast goes through you you will have to stick to Dioralyte.

A person with norovirus is most infectious from when their symptoms start until 48 hours after all their symptoms have passed, although they may also be infectious for a short time before and after this.

Drink plenty of fluids to avoid dehydration. You need to drink more than usual to replace the fluids lost from vomiting and diarrhoea – as well as water, adults could also try fruit juice and soup.

Avoid giving fizzy drinks or fruit juice to children as it can make their diarrhoea worse.

Babies should continue to feed as usual, either with breast milk or other milk feeds.

Take paracetamol for any fever or aches and pains.Get plenty of rest.If you feel like eating, eat plain foods, such as soup, rice, pasta and bread.

Use special rehydration drinks made from sachets bought from pharmacies if you have signs of dehydration, such as a dry mouth or dark urine – read more about treating dehydration.

Adults can take antidiarrhoeal and/or anti-emetic (anti-vomiting) medication – these are not suitable for everyone though, so you should check the medicine leaflet or ask or your pharmacist or GP for advice before trying them.

How rude?! You weren't there!

I went through the maximum daily dose of paracetamol every day for 3 of those weeks just to keep my temperature down, had to stretch 3 doses out through the day so I had one for the night time or I'd wake up shivering cold with a temp of 40! I could hardly move my limbs especially my arms, could hardly get in or out the bath because of it.

I've worked all my life since 16 and have never had time off for cough and cold symptoms.

I hope you never get the actual flu coz it sounds like you haven't a clue what it's like!

The greater the proportion of citizens that get the jab, the likelihood decreases of flu being a serious problem for the country.

You getting the jab could potentially be the reason that someone else didn't die, who may have caught flu indirectly from you. Herd immunity is a powerful thing.

The strains in this year's flu jab were decided a few months ago but you won't catch the flu from it, as they're not live.

I encourage everyone who is suitable to get it asap.

Flu jab through work but felt a bit icky recently. Don’t know anyone that has suffered badly this year but the Aussie winter and flu season was meant to be pretty harsh

Never had the flu jab and fortunately never had flu. Was thinking about having it though, as my immune system is very low as just been diagnosed with hypothyroidism. Going to check with GP, when we next speak.

Just water is not good, it causes an electrolyte imbalance and can cause huge problems. It’s better to drink a proprietary hydration solution.

So the healthy pregnant or postnatal women I’ve cared for that died of flu, how do you account for that?

It’s true that immunocompromised people are more likely to die of flu but it does happen in the healthy too.

I won’t ever have the vaccination and will take my chances but at almost 57 and spending my entire career working in patient care, I’ve never had it. I do take large doses of Vit D every day though and if I do get a virus (average of about one every three years) I’m not actually ill and it’s over in a day or so.
