The claims of an impending launch comes as US Defence Secretary James Mattis warned the US Army to "stand ready" for any attack from North Korea. And UK will be there too I bet . US Government officials say they fear North Korea could launch a missile today, as the rogue nation celebrates a public holiday. I hope this all get sorted out with out a lot getting killed. I hate thinking that we could be going to war again. Do you think it will come to this.?

There’s a good chance of it. There aren’t many leaders who are crazy enough to launch a nuclear missile and there generally aren’t going to be any winners in a thermonuclear war. But the two leaders that are crazy enough is vladimir and kim jong... I half expected it to begin when i was over in the US a few months back as the Americans had a warship sat on the edge of Korean waters and Kim threatened to kill every last American alive if it entered.

Some one has to make all those bombs and bullets and equipment. There's a boat load of money to be made in war.

As I see it the main issues are the risk to the civilian population but actually in reality the question of China.

China will not want the mass influx of refugees which would surely travel their way, and I'm also quite sure that they do not relish the thought of Us military intervention on their borders.

Hence it is in China's interest to veto at the UN any military sanctions/war, but also in the interest to put NK back in its box.

As always with international diplomacy there is a bigger picture than just the two protagonists.

Just my humble take on the situation.

I think the fact that we've been at war with the north since the 50's means we shouldn't be surprised. And in nearly 70 years no diplomatic answer has been found that the north didn't piss on... Enough is enough, turn the place into a parking lot and sell the spaces to the Chinese.. Simple.

it will either be some sort of missile test or an underground nuclear bomb test...

they know now they can send a missile over japan without any consequence... so that is the direction they would send the missile.... i am waiting to see if they actually try and shoot one down!

the us and japan have the THAAD anti missile system... but even that only works about 60% of the time...

because if you send a missile up and it misses.... kim wins!

both china and russia, who share borders with north korea, and not going to want a us backed south korea on its border.... so unless it was to become politically "neutral" its would cause concern....

the other issue is that whilst any war would happen, you are going to potentially also have 30 million north korean people/refugee's fleeing for those borders as well.......

In essence I agree with this. It's a war that would be fought elsewhere no matter what Kim tries to say (South Korea, Japan, etc. but not in the US). But all that does is make me wonder why the hell Trump let us get to this point. Because it's humiliating to the US to have this kind of back and forth with a crappy little country when the only way to win is to commit more resources than it ever wants to commit. Getting to this point was so completely unnecessary and now it's hard to see a way out (at least one that doesn't make the US look even more ridiculous).

If USA & NK go to war, in the name of peace British troops will be sent in to back up the USA as they always do. Thousands of our service men and women will die defending another country, before the UK becomes a target and thousands of civilians like you or I will become casualties. Is there any point worrying? If it's gonna happen all we can do is hope for the best, and that its all over in a flash.

It's more about the costs and the rhetoric coming from trump...the cost even for a conventional strike on north Korea would be billions as it's got a massive air defence system capable of stopping cruise missiles... far better than anything Iraq had..also China has close ties to north Korea and Russia two countries the USA doesn't want to upset. I doubt north Korea would attempt to attack anyone outside it's own borders in the past the minor conflicts have all been when south Korea or someone else has crossed the borders.... why does the USA have to insist it's the world policeman look at the mess they've left in Iraq and Afghanistan

I disagree. Russia are assisting them in their research and providing them with some technology and decent grade weaponry. I doubt they would pull them back in as its a good way for them to test boundaries without being directly responsible. Much like pawns on a chess board you use them to be taken to test your opponents strategy and force a move.

China also has a long standing treaty that's been in place since the last Korean war to protect and assist North Korea against attacks. China are getting increasingly pissed off with North Korea but that doesn't guarantee they won't assist them if they are attacked. Things could escalate pretty quickly if Trump doesn't have China's assurance that they won't get involved. I think that's where the danger lies!

As an American, as a Navy veteran of war, and as a rational thinking person, I know that The whole Korean issue has been a thorn in the side of every administration since Eisenhower. If the UN had let MacArthur continue his offensive to the Chinese border, we wouldn't be in this situation now. I voted for Trump because even though he is an annoying, self obsessed, egotistical cretin, he voices views that the restof us have become to PC to utter. Of course nobody wants war, the loss of life, or the pain and suffering. But the North Korean people have been suffering for nearly 70 years now, and the last thing I want is to cow down to some totally corrupt, self serving dictator. Lil Kim is only hoping to bluff a big settlement out of the west, and I wouldn't give him the roll of toilet paper he is going to need when he soils his pants as my country pounds his back to the stone age.

Mark my words, Lil Kim is banking on Trump being like the liberal thinking, tree huggers of the past and I don't think he is...
