So I'm a BBW.

Size 18 (was size 20 over a week ago).

Since putting on weight, I have had a lot of negativity. It's been asked why did I let myself put on so much weight (I love the food), I have a pretty face but it's a shame that I'm so big, etc..

I was wondering how do people feel, when people are a little too honest. I must admit, some comments have hurt me in the past.

I am losing the weight, but that's more because I want and need to and not because of what's been said.

Your losing the weight because you want to. Thats the only thing you should care about. Stuff what others say. Good luck.

.

Sometimes it hurt quite badly. At my biggest I was a size 28 and frequently got the pretty face comments or the odd horrible thing shouted at me in the street. And the comments from some family members were horrific. And when people would go on about all the ones they found attractive that were half my size whilst we were in bed together. It took me dealing with my own issues surrounding food and my weight before I got to the size I am now. I'm almost half the weight I was.

You're doing the right thing - dealing with it because you are ready to and want to. I wish you the best of luck in it and concentrate on you and fuck the others.

It's a shit isn't it.

It's even been said 'look at her, she used to be so beautiful ' - to my face when we were at a funeral by my aunt.

I think family members think they have a right to say shit like that.

I've had this my entire life - and until this year it bothered me a huge amount and it affected my life VERY negatively... NOT ANY MORE!!

I've lost nearly ten stone FOR ME and my HEALTH and nothing to do with the ignorant fuckers who think that their attitude is acceptable.

Now I don't give a monkey's about others opinions ... plenty of men (and women) like me and plenty don't - I can deal with that.

A light went on in my head at the beginning of this year and my confidence started to grow - hence joining here - and I think until that happens in your head it will hurt.

If I have a "bad" day I still occasionally get doubts/upset etc but they really are very few and far between now.

Embrace your beauty and even your "bad" bits (I hate my tummy now I've lost so much weight but I've met guys on here who love it ) and know that you're as good as anyone else and anyone who says different can sod off!!

On the flip side one of my best friends is very thin and she gets a lot of abuse for that too.

As usual the people dishing out this shit are, obviously, total perfection aren't they?

Chin up! You're great!

OP I'm a firm believer of letting relatives bully you.

If people say things like that to your face with out any regards to tour feelings you should speak to them about it.

They have no right

A couple of things to unpack here:

1) How do people feel when others are "too" honest: it always sucks when people make statements without considering the potential for hurting someone's feelings. The best I can say is that it shows far more about them than they realize, and means far less to/about you than you realize. Don't take on their baggage - that's for them to carry.

2) Feelings about BBWs: If you check out a number of the threads that have been on recently, there are a fair amount of folks that like, or even prefer, BBWs. Relevant in this case is my own preference - I personally love women that aren't too thin. When I've been with slimmer women, I've always felt like I had to hold back in fear of breaking them. Ultimately though, it is preference - some people like tall women, some short; some like Asian, not east Indian; etc. Never a bad thing to have a preference - it's what makes the world interesting. Going back to point one though, it doesn't mean you should be negative to those in one's not-preferred grouping.

3) Losing weight - good for you, so long as you are doing it for the right reasons. Wanting to be healthier, to increase your stamina, etc., are all fine reasons for exercise. You don't even necessarily have to lose weight for those ones - just making sure you will live a bit longer so that you can fab as long as you want to is fantastic. Just don't lose weight because someone made a crack about your weight. That is their BS to own, not yours.

Apologies for the long-winded response, but I hope it was helpful.

I'm more confident in my sexuality now than when I was slim (with an ex who thought size 12/14 was obese!)

I am working to lose the weight BUT for health reasons and not loads.

There are gorgeous women of all sizes, size is just a part of their physicality even. Let alone the whole package.

And I find slim shaming as bad as fat shaming, neither should be acceptable.
