When you actually realise that your going to die.

When you're young everything seems possible and life is a box of chocolates.

Getting old and dying is for old people right?

Don't worry about it there's nothing you can do to stop it eventually., great when you know that all being well you have 30,40 or 50 years still to go.

Recently been diagnosed with, diabetes, high cholesterol, and now high blood pressure and arthritis.

I have always taken care of myself and never smoked, drank and ate in moderation.

Been very sporty and have an active job.

But in the end genetics determine everything.

I know that if I make 60 I will be doing very well.

My father, mother and grandparents all died before they were 65.

I am only 48 and feel more like 68.

I can associate with this, I know I won't make retirement due to chronic lifelong conditions. I don't feel down about it, I'm living for now x

My cousin died of cancer at 37, her last words to me the night before she died were she wished she'd had her life- I'm living mine xx

Make life style changes but just live for today?

"such a sad thread "

It's not a sad thread for me....

Unless a person has shared life with their one true soul-mate they haven't lived themselves

Cheery thoughts hey!

I'm not destined for longevity as have a nasty growing that is slowly debilitating me. I just try not to think about it but I'm not scared of dying. What will be will be.

Op, your profile says you are 49 btw!

But you can change most of that, diet can reverse the diabetes and high cholesterol, I know I did it, and high blood pressure can be managed. The arthritis of you keep active it will help. It's not all doom and gloom, just a reminder to look after yourself x

I was just about to say the same thing!

You have metabolic syndrome. Dump carbs, get reading and in all likelihood, you'll actually live a longer and healthier life.

Start worrying when the docs write you out a DS1500 form. What I mean is you have a health condition, not a date in the near future.

Until then live every day as well as you can and enjoy it because many have passed who would still love to be here.

Not just dump carbs either, your body sounds like it's too acidic. You'd find huge improvements if you aimed to alkalise your body more too...its nowhere near as hard as you'd think..

We all need reminding sometimes that we need to look after ourselves better.

Especially me!

Diabetes and high cholesterol are reversible OP - a dietician is your best bet.

I feel a lot "older" recently - and more scared of things which previously I wouldn't have given any fucks about

We're not invincible - but we can try and give ourselves the best possible chance x

Both my parents died relatively young. I am predisposed to almost everything under the sun - especially diabetes. I came to terms with the fact that I'm going to die young a long time ago. I just do what I can to be healthy so I can enjoy the time I have - I've seen the alternative and it's not pretty.

Why worry about it, you have a life to live. I hope to reach the grave battered and bruised but, at least i will have had some fun.

45 years old, beat cancer, got aches and pains from doing stupid stuff, partially sighted due to an air pistol incident, there is a lot of stupid things still to do......

Done the full blown cancer thing twice, the steroids used in the second round gave a heart that without drugs runs at 300+ beats per minute, a screwed liver and diabetes.

None of that reduces my life expectancy, what may reduce it is my determination to have a fun life.

Second round of chemo was pretty intense spent 6 months as an inpatient on a cancer ward. Got very good at predicting who wasn't going to make it... they were the ones that had stopped fighting before they came in.

OP you may have 50 years yet, or may get run over by a giant cheese tomorrow. Get on with today.

To paraphrase tyrion lannister

I wish to die of old age in bed with my cock in a womans mouth.

However as im almost certain im gonna end up with altzimers as my memory can be terrible at times maybe old age wont be that great. Not afraid of death as long as its quick and painless

Iceland, but Aldi is closer..

"When I die, I want to die like my grandfather who died peacefully in his sleep. Not screaming like all the passengers in his car."

Will Rogers.

That quote always seems pertinent when people are considering when the end may come...

Death is one of life's great levelers, something inevitable for all of us.

It can be scary and I do believe some people worry their lives away thinking about death..

I'm no stranger to the thought of death, shot while serving in the forces aged 21 really does focus the mind on death.. two others lost their lives that day so I do feel lucky.

I am currently having treatment for cancer, death doesn't scare me too much but the bloody treatment sure as hell does..

For the Op, you haven't been handed a death sentance, just a warning to change your lifestyle..it will be a struggle at first but if you embrace the lifestyle change, it will pay dividends... don't be scared of the change but bear in mind the outcome if you don't change.

Oh, and get out there and do stuff you never would, we only have one chance at this life and the world around you is truly amazing if you open your eyes and explore beyond your front door (metaphorically.. I'm sure you do leave the house occasionally)

"Diabetics don't live past 60."

I listened to that from my mum for over 15 years. She was 76 when she finally went, and she'd still be with us now if she'd called the ambulance in time. She'd been severely ill for a couple of days, and her home help eventually managed to convince her that she needed to go to hospital. By the time she got there, they couldn't pump antibiotics into her fast enough to save her.

I think it's less about how long you live and more about how much you enjoy the life you have. It's one of the reasons I steadfastly refuse to lose weight. Dieting makes me miserable. I would rather lead a shorter but happier life.

Whether I will feel the same on my death bed is a different matter. But I'd rather spend a few minutes or hours dying than months or years. I've watched too many elderly relatives do the latter.

We all have finite time in the planet. Make the most of what you've got, and value quality over quantity.

I was 51 two weeks ago. I smoked for years. I do drink. Have taken copious amounts of recreational drugs in my clubbing days. Have worked nights and shift work for years (take their toll on the body). Went through a 3 year very stressful divorce. Suffered from depression as a result.

But I do eat healthy and excercise. I would not change a single thing about my past apart from ever laying eyes on my ex wife.

I know I will die one day but it is not a worry at all. I feel happy and healthy. I intend to do as I please for the rest of my living years, regardless..

As I could get knocked over by a bus tomorrow. We all die, so best accept it.

I got run over at 18, it's true you really do see your life flash before your eyes.

I thought i'd die in childbirth and then i had a fear of dying under anaesthetic on the operating table. Made it through all that so now the only thing that concerns me about my death, is for my children to be of an age where they are old enough to take care of themselves.

Oh, and i really want to die peacefully. I wouldn't like to die in agonising pain, alone.

Just let me drift off to sleep and never wake up again, that would do me.
