For the computer geeks out there (must be some here), at what age did you start getting into computers? What drew you to them? Where are your current interests?

Building them?

Programming?

Web design?

Infosec?

Must be some fellow computer geeks on here somewhere!?

I can't remember not being into computers and gadgets. Unfortunately I'm no good at programming and wish I'd had the opportunity to learn web design at college. I've not built one of myself for a while as I don't get the game that much nowadays but still enjoy fixing them for others.

Vic 20 - typing codes in from the back of a magazine

Then Commodore 64 with a tape player!

BBC Micro at school.

I've done Web design since the mid 90s when it was dialup Internet - remember Freeserve?

Ooo err I feel old now....i had a zx and Commodore and remember computer and video games magazine with those programmes you typed in. The joys of 5minute tape loading!

Im a tech geek. Started with zx spectrum and BBC at school c64 on drugs. xbox and xbox 1. I love jet set willy?? failed with programming apparently they put mistakes in books the bastarsds. Now i can search the internet switch on kettle and lights by shouting at Google Home.

Amstrad CPC464 was our first computer... and a book of games you had to type in to start with... syntax error always came up! Haha

First computer was a sinclair zx81 when i was about 7 or 8. Spent hours and hours typing out programs from magazines which hardly ever worked lol. Then got an amstrad cpc664 followed by an amiga 1200. Was well into them and started a computer science course at college but decided i didn`t want to do it as a job and got sidetracked by a misspent youth.

Nowadays i just use computers for internet, invoices etc but occasionally dig out my old machines and have a collection of other old computers and consoles.

ZX81 that went back to shop and was replaced with a Dragon 32 where I started doing basic program writing. Then an Atari ST which got heavily upgraded and accessorised and I started doing DTP and databasing.

Been into computers since the early 80's. Always have built my own, the only one i have ever bought is a laptop. Since about 2000 i have been heavily into overclocking and benching computers, mainly under phase and LN2.

Thats probably sent most here to sleep lol, so i'll shut up

Mine (male) was an Atari 800 followed by C64, followed by Amiga 500, Amiga 1200, PC then Mac.

Xbox 360, PS3, then PS4.

I've been into programming and web design, and used to work in IT support. I also do 3D modelling, 2D digital art, and digital illustration.

Computers have entered my life from the moment I got a Commodore 64. I focused primarily on gaming all the way through high school but then began to build an interest of how things hung together and how infrastructures where being built and developed. Designing and building infrastructure was my calling. I dabble in html but draw the line at programming, I mean, wtf?! *chuckles*

started when computers started becoming out, old napster for music, dial up connections. then when about 7 broke arm went from being out all time, to playing on pc. did college, now working in computers and general electronics, refurbishing them.

For me it started with the ZX80 (yes, not the 81), then the spectrum, C64, Amstrad CPC, then PCs. I learnt to write Assembly Language before BASIC, sad I know!!

Been programming since I was 11, I'm now 45 and have done it all my working life. Have used a variety of languages over the years. I still enjoy it.

I guess you could call me a real geek!!

Zx81 was my first. I then saved up and added an external RAM pack, a massive 16k ( Yes k, not meg!)

Typing code on that vinyl keyboard took effort
