This morning I decided i was going to re-watch my box set of 'Open All Hours' first broadcast in 1976.

There really isn't comedy like it anymore, the till, stuttering, mishaps and the endless sexual innuendos.

Featuring 2 of the best comedy actors of my generation, Ronnie Barker & David Jason.

What TV comedy tickles you?

For 1970's inneuendo you'd be hard pushed to beat The Dick Emery Show ... could you imagine the reaction of the PC extremists today?

The 70's and 80's definitely the golden era for comedy sitcoms and entertainment shows, today we have the reality shows and countless cookery or gardening shows or entire channels devoted to just one thing. Anyway back in the 70's I watched Rising Damp, Porridge, Steptoe and son, are you being served, It ain't half hot mum and Some mothers do ave em

Leeds

Reeves and Mortimer from the 1990's. It was pure genius and so different for the time. Russ Abbott from the 1990's with Les Dennis. They were forever corpsing and it's great how they left it all in the show.

But the kings of good innocent comedy have to be Laurel and Hardy. Timeless fun that you can enjoy with the kids.

A lot of people posting the classics from your era , what about this evolution of comedy.

Does anybody like any newer comedians/shows ?

Love the title of this thread as it brings a weird image of the March of Progress illustration ( evolution of man thingy and yes I had to google title ) but with comedians.

George Carlin, Jim Jeffries, Tim Minchin, Rhod Gilbert to name a few...

I like Big Bang theory as well , Sheldon is brilliant , sure I've seen somewhere they have done a show about him as a kid.

I don't like Mrs Bowns boys either it feels like you're watching panto.

Started watching a show called Episodes the other day ,different style from what I've watched before. Tamsin Greig , Stephen Mangan and Matt leblanc.

On the buses creases me still. I love watching the re runs on Sky. And the movies are ace.

More recently I love Vic & Bob. The Fast Show, Goodness Gracious Me.

Only modern comedy that comes close is Katherine Tate.

I just cannot bear James Cordon. The guy irritates the tits off me

I saw a guy called Tom Binns a few years back do his character Ivan Brackenbury - Hospital DJ , some cruel jokes yet very very funny.

Love thy Neighour had an ingrained irony though. The bigoted thick white guy thinking he was outsmarting his neighbour, the articulate educated black guy next door. Could you imagine it ever being repeated? Blimey!
