For those that have them, how was your first tattoo. Will have mine within a week. 4 hour job, been told by some it's fine. Others say it's quite painful... either way it's happening. Just wanted to see what others made of their first time

My first was a shoulder tattoo. I was 18 and didn't give the pain much thought, I just wanted a tattoo i had drawn. I've never regretted any.

Best Greggs in Cheshire East

I found it just a little uncomfortable pain wise. There was the odd wincing moment. Second tatt hardly knew i was being needled. It does depend on where your having it done. Boney areas hurt more.

Got my first when I was 20 have a sleeve plus a few others dotted around now.

Majority of it wasn't painful, but some areas on the arm did hurt and some in the ribs were agony!

My first and only tattoo (so far) takes up most of my upper arm. An accurate description of the sensation for me is being scratched when you have really bad sunburn, not painful but definitely uncomfortable.

Like child birth (so I am told as never had a kid!) the pain is forgotten as soon as it's done lol

One of the only things I've done that I seriously regret. I keep it to remind me what a twat I was/can be/am.

I had the welsh 3 feathers (you see on the shirt of a rugby top) for my first tattoo when I was 21, it's only small but didn't really hurt I have 3 altogether now tho

Old Hill

On my lower back (not a tramp stamp). Can't say it was particularly painful, perhaps like a stinging nettle?

The tattoo shop made me use Ametop and suggest that I might need to be peeled off the roof. The build up turned up to be much more painful!

Sx

Hiding in the shadows

My back & sleeve currently taken 20hrs.

First session was 7hrs to do the outline, my tattooist had to wake me up every 50mins for a break & to move around.

I giggled my head off when he was doing my bum as it tickled.

Apparently, I'm "not normal"

I have several, they all hurt in varying degrees,it really does depend where they are and believe it or not certain times of the month for ladies can exacerbate pain levels.

I am planning another one soon I just can't make my mind up what to have x

That's a really good description!

I've personally found I can't really feel it on the more fleshy areas but if it's bony, I'm aware of it - but not enough to think of it as pain.

The place I go for all mine, has a wall of shame filled with guys who've tilted or passed out mid inking...

Never go on a completely empty stomach and remember to breath... Slow and steady...lol... I reckon forearms hurt less but I'm just waffling now..

"Can be slightly addictive. "

Well I haven't had my first and I've already decided on the next two, I have an image of what I want my body to look like and I think I'll need around 15 hours after this one to have it the way I want.

I had my first at 18 on my stomach which took an hour, wasn't bad at all

Then I started on my arm, in 2 or 3 hour sessions, again not too bad.

I did 3 hour sittings to finish the bottom half of my sleeve which hurt like fuck as it was single needle work across the crease where your arm bends.

I then did a 5 hour sitting on my other arm which really really hurt after 3 hours it got uncomfortable.

Of course tattoos hurt but it's the end result that makes it worth it. Also with tattoos generally you get what you pay for.

It will be much easier if you relax. Some areas are more sensitive than others. It won't be as painful as you imagine x

My artist is the same one my colleagues go to so I know his work is of a good standard. Was weary of going anywhere else as it's easy for them to look good in photos but be a right shambles in the flesh

I'm planning my first too. Will eventually be a larger one but has 4 smaller components to it. It will be on my lower tummy/left hip. If I can EVER afford it.

I'm ok with pain as I have chronic pain conditions anyway but certain times of month I'm more prone to low blood pressure/fainting so want to avoid that.

Any tips on times of month to avoid ladies?

My first few were all fairly easy down my forearms, then I had one at the top of my back which hurt like a cunt...

Then the inside of my bicep... 5 and a half hour portrait with pain I wouldn't wish on anyone. So much shading

Then one on the back of my calf which was pure pain for 3 hours.

Seem to be getting more painful as I carry on getting them.

I actually enjoyed it, I like a little bit of pain. Was not as bad as I had been led to believe though! If you don't do pain well the numbing creams are supposed to be good. Just buy a known brand and try it on an area first!
