Tax and living away from home allowance

Hey everyone. Can I have some help in tax and living away from home allowance. I'm currently working freelance but i suspect my current role maybe offered on a perm basis. That's all ok but my main issue is Around the fact I live away from home to work. My perm residency is in Northern Ireland. But I work freelance/contract in London. May I ask if a perm role was offered could I ask for a living away from home allowance in lieu of a car allowance etc

There is no straight forward answer to your question .....

But from a first hand perspective

My old employer asked me to permanently relocate to Australia to run our offshore drilling operation in the southern hemisphere.....

To comply with their request would result in me losing my right to accrued redundancy, too also lose the provision of company pension and to compound those losses they wanted to pay me in US dollars which made a combined reduction in salary and bonus of a significant 5 figure reduction in my annual pay .....

I declined the offer

In short yes you can i work in thames valley during the week its over a certain mileage which i think you def qualify your employer can pay you through your wages

You can get tax free accomodation allowance plus a food allowance of say 20 a day which is taxable

You need proof of permanent residence in ireland like a tenancy agreement or rentbook utilities and the same for london

Check the hmrc site

Ps if you continue using company car you will have to pay tax on it depending what you drive approx 20 a week which does work out cheaper than buying one yourself

They tax you on the amount of fuel they guess you use
