I am getting parcels everyday this week addressed to my address but the name of somebody who doesn't live here.

(I have never heard of them before this).

They are all in the same name and just today I received six. Inside them they have very old phone chargers or very heavy, old tape dispensers even though the packing note says something completely different, like playstation controllers etc.

They are arriving through all different couriers and royal mail, and they have come on eBay return label print outs. I have contacted eBay and they said it's unusual and they don't know what they can do when they haven't managed to trace any of the items ( item numbers are on the labels), on their site.

Trading standards, and my local police have not heard of something like this before and have noted it but could not give us any advice.

The only thing I can think it is, think it is a fraud, where somebody is running two eBay accounts, and buying something off their own account, then saying they have returned it, and then requesting a refund from PayPal as there is proof that they posted it and it arrived somewhere.

It's all a bit confusing, I wondered if any of you have any ideas on what this might be?

Or what I should do?

I will phone PayPal in the morning, to see what they say, past that I have run out of ideas.

If they are packing them as tape dispensers and declaring them as PlayStations then it is possible that they are committing some kind of delivery insurance fraud with the weight of the parcels being similar to the declared item, if that makes sense

I have heard of it before, not sure exactly how it works though ??

There doesn't seem to be much you can do about it apart from refuse to accept the parcel

Maybe worth reporting to courier companies. Try googling the name they are being sent to, it may throw up some info.

It's likely a mail insurance fraud as someone said, gonna claim the value of a controller, when all it had in it is some old junk.

It could also be a semi legitimate shop charging peoples credit cards for stuff, then mailing out junk in the thinking if its ever investigated they will have mail receipts.

Who knows.

I have tried refusing delivery, but some of them are getting put through the door when I am out, or the couriers are taking them to neigbours people are signing for them not realising I am turning them away.

One of the parcels I turned away two days ago and wrote on it "not known at this address" was delivered to my neighbours today with a slip put through my door.

It is definitely something suspicious, and not all of them have packing slips, although I've only opened 3 as I thought I might need to show that I haven't opened them, and they all feel the same and the same weight.

The packing slips are showing incorrect items as I mentioned in the original post and as another poster mentioned, are possibly a similar weight and size but worthless.

Well at least you have kind neighbours. I was unable to take delivery of an item, it went two doors down, and they crossed it out and put "not at this address" and put it back in the post.

I have actually started a life long blood feud over it.

No only this week, the first parcel arrived about three days ago. I have now got about 12 here that I haven't managed to turn away.

I asked the Post Office if they could not deliver any parcels with the name they all carry at this address, but they said they could not do that.

It's a scam, most likely eBay. This happened to a friend of mine who paid for a phone that never turned up. When she tried to get her money back she was told that the seller had proof of postage therefore she wasn't entitled to a refund.

Any items that require a signature...don't sign for.

Any items that come through the letter box...put back in the post box unopened with a note on the back saying "not know or living at this address" they will go back to the sorting office and be held for 2 weeks...then disposed of.

I'm trying to think if the sender can be identified in any way. If its insurance fraud they will have needed to get proof of posting. Is there a way they could be traced via that? Maybe if you contact the post office and delivery firms they could tell you.

It does sound rather fishy.

However if the poster is trying to claim for lost parcels I don't know how it will work because

1. Royal Mail only allows up to £20.00 compensation unless using Special Delivery. In which case this requires a signature for proof of delivery.

So if someone has signed for it then they won't be able to claim it's lost. Same for delivery companies.

If someone try's to claim for lots of lost parcels then the RM will investigate.

This is wrong.

Proof of postage is NOT proof of delivery. It only proves the item was posted. The Poster is always required to make the claim for lost items.

Ebay will refund buyer on this.

Anyway here is an update after receiving 7 more parcels already this morning, and that's before the couriers come round.

I have waited out due to some messages on the packing slips today and what possibly could be happening if I was racking my brains.

A seller advertises an item, some of the items that have been noted on the packing slip are PlayStations and iPhone 7s.

A innocent customer buys the item, receives a charger or a sellotape dispenser, asks to return it as it is the wrong item, and is given my address and a different name and returned it to me.

The seller will obviously be trying to take all the money before he gets found out, and the buyers will get a refund i presume as it shows that the item was delivered somewhere.

I have had a lengthy conversation with PayPal this morning and explained it all and giving them lots of details. I have left a message with the paypal, and explained what I think is happening, they really couldn't understand it at first but finally I think they got there.

I have left a message with the local police who I spoke to you yesterday to call me back as they were busy, and Trading Standards are closed today.

I'm keeping all of the items for now that I have accepted or accidentally been delivered when I couldn't refuse them, in case PayPal, the police or trading Standards want to inspect them.

I have tried to contact any customers that I can find details on from the packing slips but that is very difficult and time consuming, and I have had no success there so far.

So this is where and I'm at at the moment.

I'm very much hoping that it will be resolved sooner rather than later.

I will keep the thread updated.

EBay return labels have a return address. So you should be able to trace who the sender is. I would just stack them up and see what turns up. My guess is possible the person who lived at yours before you and didn't update eBay. Or they live local and don't want collections and just put yours. Its not fraud, look up the sender and should state the address. If all the same then is that person or if all different then one of the above is the reason.

And the way it works no matter what if they are eBay returns. EBay will refund even if the seller says they didn't receive it, so the person is not making any money. And even If they are selling the wrong items and claiming to be different eBay will close the account and refund.

Am a large eBay store. So know the process and what eBay automatically do. Its a nightmare for sellers. As eBay only take the buyers side and very hard to get eBay to do anything as they will just say the same thing

One other thing. Try typing in your address in google with eBay in the phase. If business account on eBay will come up the seller.

I have traced a few buyers details but I haven't managed to get in touch with an any of tgem. eBay has all the details now, as do PayPal and are looking into it.

I have lived here for 20 years and I know all my neighbours. It is definitely not anyone who has lived in my house or name that I recognise.

The buyers are saying they did receive it, they are saying it is the wrong item sent, ie, a very heavy desktop old tape dispenser instead of a PlayStation and controllers.

There buying stuff, then claiming it's broke/no good, posting tat back and claiming a refund, only there sending it to a random address rather than an actual return.

If they can get away with it for a month, they can withdraw from their PayPal accounts and whoosh, gone.

What they don't realise is PayPal will hunt them down to the ends of the earth and then beat the shit out of them

The problem is that the seller has put the return address as my address, not as his address. So all the return labels the emails coming out or addressed to me but are in a different name.

There is no reason at the return address needs to be the address that the eBay app as registered with. Also there is no proof that he hasn't actually registered the whole account in my address, as no one checks where he is sending from, only where it is being sent to.

But if paypal act quickly they can check his bank account to which he is with drawing the funds to.

My point earlier was the fact it was not the buyer who had sent them on to you...as it would have been pointless and neigh on impossible as ebay issue the forwarding labels

I did a spell processing mail remotely by images in a call centre up here for a london sorting office.

The postie put an envelope in a neighbour'z door 1DOOR AWAY!! and instead of just putting through the right door, wrote on it, try number 6, then walked to a post box and put it back in the post sytem!, unbelievable!

Anyway, yes it'll be a scam. Is yr PayPal account ok?

Yes nothing at all has been touched from any other accounts, it is just the address they are using. It isn't us getting scammed it's the buyers. We are doing everything we can to try and help PayPal sort it out.
