HULL CITY COUNCIL WILL REFUSE TO TAKE YOUR BLUE BIN AWAY IF THERE ARE BAGS OF RUBBISH INSIDE

Blue bins contaminated with "bagged items" will no longer be emptied.

Contamination is said to be costing Hull City Council £500,000 every year.

From October, any recycling bin found to contain bags of rubbish will not be collected, forcing residents to make their own arrangements.

Councillor Alan Clark, portfolio holder with responsibility for waste, said: "We have had to take the decision to no longer accept blue bins that contain bagged items.

"The majority of Hull residents recycle and recycle well, but the amount of incorrect materials going in the blue bins is a huge concern for us.

If the rubbish in the blue bin is in a black bag, bin bag or carrier bag, it will not be emptied.

Tins, jars and other food containers must be cleaned before putting in the bin.

If the wheelie bin lids don't close properly it won't be emptied.

Our council changed our recycling of garden waste and food recently, no food stuff including potato or fruit peel allowed in with garden waste because of contamination, yet if you have a compost bin it's good. We've not been able to bag anything for a while. X

Go to the Germans way of recycling. Half the stuff places allow to be recycled can't actually be recycled. Be grateful you have bins, were still on bags!

It's been like that in my area for a couple of years now...plus I have never put a plastic carrier bag into the bin.

Why would anyone when we know they are non recyclable.

Sometimes it's clear that just education isn't enough to get people to change their habits. Drastic changes like this will likely shock people to recycle properly.

Councils generally have had their budgets slashed by Conservative government, so can't afford to waste money whilst other services are reduced or closed.

We don't have a recycle bin, just boxes.

One for plastic/tins, one for glass, a bag for paper and cardboard and a little container for food waste.

We two have two big green garden waste wheelie bins though. I'm glad ours is a council that doesn't charge to take those!
