Newcastle and Gateshead

this is going to sound really cold... but if that was the only major incident that happened that weekend at the carnival.. then that is a very quiet carnival and i have seen a lot lot worse....

thats why anyone who knows gets out of the area on the monday before it gets dark...

That's the one carnival I have never been interested in going to and I guess it's because that's all I hear about .I grew in ny and we have a big one there every september and it gets really busy as i'm talking more peopple than you see and any of the carnival events over here. When it gets ugly it can its ugly and people die there unnoticed because it's soo huge. I didnt want to see that anymoe so I stopped going but i'm seeing the same things here so I just go to any of the major ones .

Notting Hill carnival attracts over 1 million peole, police arrested 263, 1 major incident, I think that's a pretty good ratio. Seemed quieter than other years but still a really good weekend.

It's a shame that it's only the bad news that's mentioned on the news, in the forums.

I think a lot of people were expecting mayhem after the events of the last few weeks, glad they were disappointed.

I agree with Jenks.

There are people stabbed every single day of the year but it's not even news.

Notting Hill was a great success so was Matthew St. Carnival in Liverpool but what gets reported this morning? The number of arrests. Not the fun. Not the organising. Not the community links and all the hard work and effort and the tens of thousands of law abiding caring sharing citizens.....but the few arrests.

Why is a stabbing in London big news ?

It should be - morally but it isn't.

Must be someone out there with a need to get others to look at the carnival in a negative light..... people that didn't want it to go ahead perhaps?

After the riots we NEED carnivals and reparation not panic.

Oh shit...... the link is from the Daily Mail.

Should I even look?

I'll risk one eye.

I see that the arrest figures are down on last year for the period of the carnival. Hooorayyyyyyyy....

WORCESTERSHIRE

it is exactly the same at rock festivals, they report only the few drug related arrests and not the 1000's who had a great time enjoying the music!.

football also gets reported about a few arrested for being d*unk and fighting but not about how many thousands including families enjoyed a good match!.
