I've used them a couple of times and have had no issues with them but heard some horror stories...I know some LA that won't have them licensed in that area as they don't want to take work from the established private hires but Lind everything there are loop holes..

im glad theyve lost their licence in london..cut throat employers, owner was a trump advisor, which is all i need to know really...and i have a friend who's a cop in london who was telling me months ago of the problems they have had with assault accusations etc and the companies reputation with the police for putting up brick walls and making enquiries as difficult as possible, as well as the numerous cases they're investigating of several drivers sharing insurance policies between them..nasty company...i do feel for some of the drivers, just trying to make a living, but theyre treated appallingly. i would rather pay a little more and have a reliable,checked out driver who actually knows his way around london.

A Galaxy Far, Far Away & Spain

I’m following a page on Facebook in which some black cab drivers are bemoaning the same things, & deriding the fact that Uber don’t pay tax in the UK. Ironically, as a mainly cash industry there’s bound to be a tax dodger or two (& Tory voter or two) that are black hack owners.

Why lower black cab fees? It's not a race to the bottom. London has excellent public transport, if you can't afford black cabs there are plenty of other options to get about.

Profitable for uber, less so for the drivers. I can get an uber from central London back to where I live in Hertfordsire fir not much more than £4?. On a ckear run they are looking at a minimum 2 hour round trip, probably nearer 2 1/2. By the time uber have taken their cut and you factor in the other costs it's a lot closer to minimum wage than you'd think. Well unless they get lucky and get a fare wanting to go in to London at 6 in the moring. A decade ago an unlicensed cab would charge more for thst journey.

I don't use uber, despite the saving I'd rather not knowingly exploit someone in thst way

Jeez fares in London cost a packet.

But these have been set by London transport for black cabs...so I would presume local minicab firms would be cheaper?

Anyhow here's the pricing from London transport for black cabs only

Between Heathrow and

Now a 6 mile journey where I live costs around £6- £7 for a private hire taxi (mini cab) whilst a hackney (flag down taxi) would cost around £10-£12.

Quite a difference though London will no doubt have a congestion fee to add...anyhow I don't think Uber will be in a hurry to come here

I've lots of distrust for the company, largely focused on the ethics of their business model. The company won't potentially pay tax here or where it operates too - much too common amongst large businesses that want to use and be supported by the infrastructure that taxpayers are funding, though using is the operative word, the business being parasitic upon even the poorest members of UK society, so that very wealthy investors can screw them for cash.

The whole scheme is very dirty.

I'm sorry but i cant pay someone for a fair that goes up while i'm stationary. Wtf is that all about . I haven't used a black cab in 10 years and never will. Where I live there's a company that is cheaper than all taxi companies. Rhey only have like 15 drivers and all know my name. They don't drive off after 1 minute and claim they couldn't find the client. They actually have a soul. I reckon it's a family run company but not sure but what i do know they've always turned up and no metres. Postcode to postcode so it's their best interest to find the quickest route to your destination.

You hire the taxi with the driver...so say the driver is stuck in a traffic jam for maybe two hours...your saying he should not get paid for his time?

I've only used Uber twice,both times in Manchester.They were quicker and cheaper than any of the local cab companies,the vehicles were top notch both times and the drivers seemed to be happy with their lot when I got chatting to them.I do think that as a company Uber are very shady and exploitative,but then most big companies that provide a cheap service are corrupt in one way or another.Take Amazon for example...

I'm a performer and DJ and use Uber. A lot. Got rid of my car as worked out cheaper.

I've spoken to a lot of their drivers who prefer working for Uber than minicabs. They can choose their hours and don't have to go from the minicab office, to the client, the client's destination then back to the office. They keep moving, saving petrol.

I've had far more negative experiences with black cabs than Uber. With Uber, when a driver has been a judgemental silly arse, they've refunded me.

I don't agree with a lot of their business practices and it's TFL's fault for not regulating their license. Whatever happens post appeal, this model of travel works for a lot of Londoners.

I like the Uber model, never had any issues, love there's no cash, love tracking the cab.

The issues are obviously concerning, I do think some of that though is just because of the size of their workforce, I imagine small private hire firms might have one bad egg too, but then they might only have ten drivers. It's magnified when Uber would have the same percentage of bad eggs, but that would mean 10 drivers out of a hundred.
