Going on a diet!

Not me, the dog that is!

His weight has been increasing steadily in the past year and a half, and needs to loose at lease a couple of kilos.

He is exercised regularly, by his dog walker as well as myself, which means I must be giving him too much to eat.

Since I love my food, it is no surprise that my pets eat well.

However, it is time to be cruel in order to be kind, and I shall cut down on his portions.

He needs to eat special food for teeth/gum related issues, apparently it has high fat content, so I need to give him less.

Think I must have the fittest dog on the planet.

I've been off work 3 months and so nearly everyday we've walked around 8 miles to the woods and back.

He's a "council estate special", a type of lurcher for want of better description, he's a bit taller than a Labrador, weighs 29kilos, and doesn't have an ounce of fat on him. You can see his muscles as if he was a doggy body builder, lol.

I just feed him daily 600grammes of dry worker dog food, from loacal Petsmart, water, and whatever scraps we have, which in our house isn't a lot

Both pets get fed discounted roast chicken and cold roast beef when I can get them as part of their meals.

They both like their food, just like their mum!

I was going to ask whether you're feeding them some of your fantastic sounding recipes. It is hard when they look at you all sad and morose.

My springer is 11 and has arthritis, so she's on tablets for her joints but I'm trying to keep her weight down to keep her healthy. She's not too happy about it I don't think

Nah, a lot of the food I cook are either too rich and/or have onions and garlics, and not good for them.

My mums westie developed diabetes a couple of years ago and has to have daily insulin injections. She also has to have a very restricted diet...carefully measured ammounts of dry complete food but to stop her being constantly hungry she now has a third of a head of broccoli with her evening meal....and absolutely loves it.
