It's better than putting Diesel into a petrol car. How big is the tank? You may have diluted it enough. If your engine starts kicking out a lot of b;ack smoke, thats probably why.

E.K . Glasgow

If it's below 20% probably be ok though may be smokey remember they used to add petrol to diesel to stop it waxing up in cold weather years ago .

Actually in the end, I was told by an ex VW worker that this is a good thing

Bloody lucky more like. I'd only had my car a few months

There would not be any problem even if you fill it up with cooking oil.

Try to top up with diesel as much as you can so the persentance of petrol in the tank will reduce.

Hope it goes well.

Yeah there would - I know the original Mr Diesel designed an engine that ran on peanut oil, but modern engines are more sensitive than that - Why would people bother making Biodiesel if all they had to do was filter the oil and bing it in their vehicles?

Someone was sat very very red faced at a garage yesterday with her car cones off and a bright yellow van with flashing lights(siphoned off whatever she had put in it and tinkered with the engine)

Hardly discrete she looked mortified

I grabbed the diesel nozzle not long back and was trying to jab it in the fuel tank, was huffing and puffing cos it wouldn't go in, was saying what the fuck is wrong with this now, before realising the hose was black and not green!

Lucky the diesel nozzle wouldn't fit inside my petrol tank or I would've filled it with diesel.

It will be fine as said above keep topping up. You might find it even runs a bit better after you've run it off. Petrol burns hotter than diesel so it will burn off old carbon and won't do the dreaded dpf any harm ether. Just don't do it every week or you'll be fitting a new diesel pump.

If you ever do which you shouldn't becous of the nozzle sizes don't even think about starting it. That way around will destroy your engine or at best it will forever burn blue smoke and lots of it

You might get lucky (probabaly will) however it could damage the high pressure pump that feeds the common rail.

It could have diluted it enough not to make much difference.

I'd definitely fill it back up every 1/8th tank to help dilute it more.

Good luck!

"Possibly a shot of two stroke oil just to help with lube???"

Not a bad shout, 1/2 a litre wouldn't hurt.

Petrol really doesn`t agree with some diesels. It can rot and/or swell the rubber used in seals and pipes. especially if the petrol has ethanol in it.

Diluting it may be ok but I would get it all out.
